"Excuse me, excuse me. Sorry." was all I said as I waved and squeezed through the crowd of students, who were mostly bigger than I was. All I could think was, I'm so nervous. I don't think I can do this. What if I flunk out. I should just quit while I'm ahead. Look at all these kids, they are like giants. No one would take me as their squire obviously, I mean look at me..........
I had completely spaced, and before I knew what was happening.........BANG!!! I found myself crashing into a student as big as a tree and falling on my but onto the hard concrete floor of the auditorium. The sheer force of the crashed knocked the air right out of my lungs that I yelped in pain. I looked up and.... "Damn." "I mean sorry. I'm really sorry." The tree, what I started calling him in my mind had a bald head, copper blue eyes and a few missing teeth. His mere demeanor alone, told me he was a knight in training. "Hey! You blind, bitch? " "No, and also, I am not a bitch." As soon as I said it, I realized that I had just made the biggest mistake of my life. Damn you, Arin. You should have just stayed quiet.
My response seemed to have set his soul on fire because then, he got so angry, he started leaving gigantic footprints in the concrete. He was an earth harness. All the students around me started rambling, I could still make out a few words like "Idiot, stupid. At least run, you have no chance. Looks like a squire." I should have taken the advice and just run, but I didn't, I just stood there staring. Before I knew what was happening, a giant boulder was heading straight for me. I barely had time to react when I was pulled backwards, flying through the air and landing on my butt. "Are you okay?", I looked up and met the eyes of a tall, skinny girl with navy blue hair that glistened in the light and with eyes the same color. "I'm good, thanks." I had barely finished my sentence when another boulder was sent flying towards us, "LOOK OUT!!!" The girl jumped forward and with her two chairs were sent hurdling towards the boulder, the crash sent bits of rock and dirt flying everywhere. The girl seemed to be able to harness the energy in inanimate objects. "Hey, Arin. What's going on?" I heard Ara ask me as she helped me stand. "I don't know." I answered, but I did something though, the raging battle between the two seemed to be drawing a lot of energy out of the girl as she seemed to begin to have trouble harnessing, I started to panic "Can't anyone help, seriously, where are all the teacher around here?!" With the side of my eye I saw the girl drop to the floor in exhaustion, I ran to her, looking frantically for anyone to help. All the students here seemed to be first year students as they all seemed like they had never used their abilities before. As if to finish the job, the boy sent another boulder towards the girl and me and before my eyes changed into a spike, "NO!!!" I screamed, and suddenly there was a jolt of energy like a shield shooting out of my chest, smashing into the rock and the boy together sending him flying towards the auditorium door and crashing through it only to land at the headmaster's feet and then, nothing.....I open my eyes to find the golden eyes of a woman with short silver. "You're up. Thank goodness. I wasn't expecting you to come to until maybe next week, you used a lot of your energy to pull off a stunt like that." "Where am I?" I asked, still confused about what was happening, "What happened?, wh...where... is the girl okay?" "You mean, Princess Umbrix. She's fine. She's at the headmaster's office along with Lord Chena waiting for you."
"Wait! They're nobles?!" "As in Princess Umbrix the third of the house of Vale and Lord Chena of the house of Wolfham?" I sighed and buried my face in my hands, Now I've done it. My thoughts were interrupted by the high squeaky voice of the healer, "If you're ready, the headmaster is waiting."
"Uh...thanks." I leapt of the bed and sprinted towards the headmaster, I thought I would get lost but I guess the rumors were, the halls of Linuxn Academy led you to the right place all the time, so long as you have authorization and I guess I did.
I got to the headmaster's office and was about to knock just when the doors flung open and I heard the headmaster, "Come in, Master Arin." "Okay?" I walked in to meet the headmaster who looked very calm, despite the disaster that hat just happened and on the first day too.
"To the issue at hand, I have done my investigations and it seems like all this could have been avoided if Lord Chena had kept his temperament in check."
"It was..." Chena tried to cut in. ''None of my business! The fc is that you attacked another student and that is unacceptable, for that, you will be in charge of fixing up the auditorium."
"Miss Umbrix,..." She seemed nervous as soon as her name was mentioned. "You have shown great courage in standing up in defense of a weaker student, thank you." The headmaster said as he bowed his head in gratitude to the princess. "Now if you will both excuse us, I have something important to speak to Arin about." "Yes, Sir!", they said in unison as they both stepped out of the office.
"Arin." the headmaster started after Umbrix and Chena had left. "I know you have a lot of questions, but I have to ask you, have you been noticing anything strange with yourself lately?"
"Well, I have been a lot of energy build up in my body lately. Sometimes, I see auras and I...I cant really explain it really." I sighed in frustration. "Well, you, Arin, are a spirit harness." "What?!", I jumped in my seat. "I've never showed any signs of being a harness growing up! I'm sorry for yelling, just.....I......I don't understand what is happening and a spirit harness? Really?"
"I understand your frustration, I too discovered I was a light harness late. See, the thing is, you have unlocked your abilities, but that is not what worries me, you seem to be able to control dark spirits as well" I was taken aback at this. "What? Dark spirits?! I thought only half bloods could do that?".
"Yes, and that is what you are. Now, I see here, you have your mother accounted for, but it say that your father is dead?"
"I don't know who he is, I just know that I never met him the past fifteen years of my life."
"What has your mother told you about him?"
"Just the regular stuff, He was brave and loyal, you know, all that,......Oh! She said, that he disappeared the day the Maian sheilds went up."
"Mmmhmm, I see. My opinion, is that your father might have been a demon, which is why he may or may not have been expelled from Wetheros when the shields went up."
"But he attended Linuxen. If he was an impure being, he wouldn't have been able to get into the school."
"Which is what surprises me." He shakes his head. "Anyway, that aside, your spirit harness, although having a few traits, signifying that you are half blood, your demon half seems to have been saturated with so much good that it seems, your abilities stretch beyond just harnessing the energy in spirits to purifying dark objects and entities. The exact opposite of what you are supposed to do."
Looking confused at this point, "I don't get it."
With all intent, the headmaster answered, "Arin, you are a living, breathing force against demons."
My eyes widened at this. "But....", the words got stuck in my throat when I caught the headmaster looking at the clock behind me.
"Looks like the day is already spent.", he said as he handed me a sheet of paper.
"What's this for?", I asked.
"Well, due to the manifestation of your new abilities, have transferred you to knights training in order to master your abilities to the best you can. That sheet of paper contains your new schedule, dorm room number and the name of your new roommate."
Room 456. Master Keenan. Thank goodness.
"Arin?", I look up at him, "I believe in you. Beware, do not discuss this with anyone."
"Yes, Sir.", I step out of the office and head straight for my dorm. What a day, what a day. Tomorrow, my real adventure begins.
