Better Luck Next Time

Every time I look at myself in the mirror before going to school eto yung parati kong naaalala na sinasabi ni mommy sakin. I feel so alone to the point na kahit anong gawin ko para tumaas yung grades ko sa school eh hindi pa rin napapansin ni daddy. He always give his time to my older brother. I love my kuya. Siguro dahil siya ang tagapagmana kaya lahat ng time nasa kanya.

I remembered when I was still in my grade school years may naging best friend ako. His name is Sedrick.

6 years ago…….

3 girls and 2 boys. Sila ang parating nagbubully sakin sa school. I don’t know why they hate me. I never did something bad to them.

“Nerdy girl!”

“Oh you’re alone again!”

“Nobody wants to be your friend nerdy ‘cause you’re so disgusting”

The 3 girls of their group keep saying that to me. I was crying. It’s true nobody wants to be my friend.

“Hahaha oh the nerd is crying! What a shame”

“You’re right Clefer! She’s a shame that’s why her parents never cared for her”

“Hahahahaha bye nerd!” they said in unison.

I know my parents never cared for me. But there’s one person who cares and loves me and that’s my best friend.

“Hey! Why are you crying?”

“Wala. I just saw a little dying kitten in the street”

“Nah I know you’re lying Shane, I’m your best friend so tell me what happened”

“Look Sedrick it’s ok. And I’m ok.” I did my best to smile. Yeah his my bestfriend, his name is Sedrick Kale.his dad and my dad is best buds long time ago but they’re actually busy right now in their own profession.

“Shane you know na kahit anong mangyari and problema mo you can always count on me,ok?”

“Thanks Sed.” Then we walk to our homeroom

“Why Sed? I thought you’re my best friend? You said that you’ll never leave me!” I’m crying in front of my best friend.

“Sorry Shane pero kailangan ko talagang lumipat ng school”

“No! Pwedi kong sabihan si tito na dito ka nalang mag-aaral”

“Shane listen to me, I’ll come back ok? Hahanapin kita pag uwi ko dito. Kahit ilang years pa hahanapin kita. You’re my one and only best friend.”

“Kaya nga Sed eh . Ikaw lang naman nagkicare sakin. If you’ll leave me no one will care for me.”

“Shane kahit wla na ako dito I’ll always do care for you. I promise when I come back here, I’ll look for you wherever you are”

“Promise? Pinky swear?”

“Promise” then nag pinky swear kami.

I don’t know pero kahit antagal na nun nag eexpect pa rin ako sa promise ni Sedrick sakin. I’m currently a junior student in ADMU. Madami nang nagbago. Pati physical appearance ko nagbago na. I’m not that nerd girl anymore. They call me Kristine not Shane, actually my full name is Shane Kristine Sy but everybody knows that I’m Shane Sy they never knew my second name. When we transferred into a bigger house I also transferred a new school and that’s ADMU. My mom and dad? Currently busy in their business. Immune na ata ako na wla sila sa tabi ko. Pero kasama ko si Kuya sa bahay, parati naman kasing hindi umuuwi sila mom and dad.

“Shane! The driver is ready.”

That’s my Kuya. He’s still a 4th year college student and we studied in same school.

“Yes Kuya! Coming”

I hope that this school year would be great. Absolutely new people to mingle with. How I hate this life. Pagbaba ko ng hagdan nakita ko si Kuya na nasa dining table pa din.

“Breakfast lil sis?”

“Thanks Kuya but I’m late for school. Bye Kuya” I smile at him and give him a hug and kiss.

“Good morning class! I have an announcement. We have a transferee student here. Come over here Kristine. Introduce yourself”

Okay this is it. I hate this part of my life. Yung tipong lahat ng tao na sayo ang mata. Tsssk

“Ahmm Good morning. I’m Kristine Sy. You can call me by my first name. Hope to know each one of you. Thank you” Then I bow my head. Seriously ayoko ko talaga na center of attraction sa school.

“She’s beautiful”

“Yeah. Pero parang suplada nya ata eh”

“Baka fame whore yan”

“Correct! Baka nga bobo yan eh”

“Girl kung bobo yan eh bat andito siya sa section natin?”

“Maybe her parents paid the school for her to be in the first section?”

Tsssk I hate this. That’s why ayoko kong magpakilala eh. Hay naku. Hindi ko nalang sila pinansin at umupo nalang ako sa pinakahulihang silya ng classroom.

“Don’t mind them. Ganyan talaga sila, mga walang magawa sa buhay”

Tiningnan ko yung nagsalita. Isang girl. She’s actually pretty.

“It’s ok. Sanay na naman ako eh” I smiled at her.

“by the way I’m Julien Kate Tan but you can call me Kate if you want”

“Nice to meet you Kate, I’m Shane Kristine Sy, call me Kristine”

“Oh I thought it’s Kristine Sy?”

“Yeah. I want them to know me with that name. Kakatransfer lang kasi namin dito kaya nobody knows about my real name. You’re the first one”

“Really? I’m so flattered. Okay I keep that as a secret” sabi ni Kate sakin sabay hug.

“Yaay. Thanks”

“Sorry huh masyado  akong FC sayo.”

“Naku ok lang yun. Parang ikaw lang naman kasi mabait dito eh”

“No. Madaming mabait dito. Don’t worry ipapakilala kita sa iba kong friends sa other sections. Masyado kasing maldita mga babae sa section na to.”

“Thanks for that Kate” I smiled at her.

“Kristine dun tayo umupo oh!” Recess time na and si Kate lang kasama ko siya lang kasi naging friend ko sa section namin.

“Sige ba” sabi ko habang daladala namin yung foods namin.

“Hey guys! I want you all to meet my new friend. Kris this is Jane, Janine,Symon and Kevin. Guys this is Kirstine Sy the transferee student.”
