Abigail awoke with a sudden panic, the nightmares had returned worse than before. She sat up on the hard stiff covers of her new bed and tried to open her eyes. The light brewing in from the window seemed to sting her eyes as though she hadn't gotten any sleep at all. Which was true of course, the whole night here she was tossing and turning. It was definitely not her room and she missed home more than she ever has.
Looking around, she realized her usual view of her own room was replaced with a new one, forgetting she had spent the night in this room as soon as she left the King's office. The instant she walked out of there, she was attacked with questions from Christopher, the King's son. He didn't seem to understand the outburst she had in front of him. Heck, it wasn't a girl thing it was just an emotional outburst, considering her whole life has been changed.
In front of her was a cream fireplace, stacked with wood creating a peaceful fire. The windows around the room were decorated in blue, cream and red stained glass. The wardrobe held a black thin robe around it's handle. Underneath the window lay a chair and desk; upon the desk were red roses in a beautiful black vase. On the other side of the room was a chest of drawers, a lamp and a note.
She crawled out of bed- still in her raggy prom dress that had been torn slightly running away from the hideous monster and headed towards the note. Before she could read the note, it flashed suddenly and lifted into the air displaying an image of the words if front of her, a woman's voice spoke through the blue screen of words. It were as if a projection played in front of her.
"First of all, I would like to say welcome back Militis, I have been dying to meet you since I learned about you in study. However, I shall not get carried away. I would like to say good morning and hoping you have had a good nights rest after your first day back. I shall accompany you this morning in the training room, you will first learn the basics and then continue to study in your first class today. I will also like to-" She jumped backwards as a bright blue light zoomed straight past her shoulder and tore the letter into tiny pieces.
Abigail turned around quickly to find a smirking Christopher standing in the doorway of her room.
"What the hell, are you crazy? You could have killed me smart ass!" He chuckled as Abigail held her heart as it belted into her chest. As if it wasn't already frightening for her that a letter had spoken to her, but now there's magic flying out of his hands, like that's normal?
"Sorry, you should thank me, she could keep you here all day that one! At our last annual party she kept us listening for nearly over an hour about how excited she was to be the first woman to become a Gutter." He chuckled once more and then stopped as he noticed the glare on Abigail's voice.
"You shouldn't just walk in, I could have been naked!" She exclaimed, walking back over to the window as she took a rose petal into the tips of her fingers and brushed it slowly. It was the only normal thing in the room.
"I wouldn't touch that, they bite" He said. She stepped back as the plant took a bite at her finger. Abigail yelped out loud as Christopher used his natural instincts and ran over to Abigail. He grabbed her finger and held it close to him, bringing his hands over it and healing her finger with his power.
The young girl looked at her hands and then to his face as he stared into her beautiful eyes, glinting from the suns light. There was something about this boy. An internal emotion came pouring into her heart whenever he stared into her eyes like this, she wasn't sure what that feeling was, but there was an ounce of joy in her mind just feeling it. He smiled slightly as she did and then backed away.
"Told you!"
"Is nothing normal around here?" She said, holding her finger to study it. She was shocked, she hadn't seen magic before and now it was happening all around her.
