Abigail leaned against the arch of the door, outside of King Nicholas's office. She heard the hardened whispers burst from inside the room as she sighed aloud. The bottom of her shoes were stained with dry mud as she stared down towards her feet. Her hands were behind her back as she recalled the events not long ago.

Two hours. That's exactly how long she's been waiting for anything. Something that will allow her to breathe without bursting a lung. No one had spoken to her, nor confronted her. Since the moment she had used her power, Minx had rushed to her side and bought her straight into the castle halls, where she was accompanied by the King. Yet, nothing was said, only now she could hear the outrage between the two in his office.

Still it took every ounce of her until she had finally realized. She finally used magic. Abigail could now understand her powers. Her mind was set on Minx however, recalling the words she said earlier this morning about something somewhere triggering her powers and allowing her to remember. Now, here she stood with her ears against the wooden door, pressed so tight she could hear the blood running through them.

Abigail tried to listen in on the Kings conversation with her new fashion friend. Had she gotten Minx into trouble for her allowing Abigail to skip her class?

What had she done?

Shall there be punishments or consequences?

Surely it's the girls fault, the leader of the pack.

It was definitely her fault for aggravating Abigail in the first place. None of this would have occurred if she had left well alone.

She kicked the air in frustration and huffed for the twentieth time that morning. Standing there silent, she felt the students staring as they walked by. Looking up, the candles flickered brightly like ageing stars as she gazed upon them. The staircase beside her kept her hidden, like a demon in the shadows watching intently.

Like a silent movie that passed her by. She imagine dirt swept against the corners of the corridor and cobwebs hanging neatly against the designed candle stands on the walls. Like some creepy old castle in your worst nightmares. Yet, it was clean and smelt like perfume. Most likely from the girls that walked along here.

The staircase reached high, with students dressed in grubby looking clothes that seemed to be their fashion here.

The walls were blank, some covered in ancient paintings displaying women and children. Her memory hadn't returned fully, only precise parts which she couldn't figure out or obtain the details. It seemed her brain was depending on these memories. But they were broken films, unworking.

Abigail imagined this world in her dreams many times, trolls controlling the deadly forests and objects floating around her. It seemed so unnatural, until now.

The sound of the door unhinging bought Abigail back to her senses. She watched as Minx strolled out of Nicholas's office with a questionable look on her face. The king watching behind her. Minx watched the hall for a second as she stood beside Abigail before speaking.

"The king is ready to see you now"

Abigail nodded unsure of the situation and walked towards the office door, hearing the steps of her new friend walk away, becoming quieter until the door shut in front of her.

The king held his robes tightly against his stomach as he watched the young girl wonder around the chair in the middle of the room, brushing the corner of the cushions in nerves. He stared silently until the room fell silent enough to speak.

"I see you've obtained a few abilities, one being a very popular one within our species, telekinesis was a very first power of mine." Nicholas watched the young girl intently, wondering what she ought to have remembered. There were things she was not ready to hear yet, dark secrets he held from her.
