~Ember~

The room was so cold without Marcel lying next to me. Without his quiet snores and his arms wrapped around me, I couldn't sleep. Never would I have thought of a day where I couldn't sleep without someone. It just goes to show how much I had fallen for Marcel. I was really in love with such a beautiful boy.

Emily was asleep in the bed next to mine. We had rented another motel room, making sure not to pick the ones that we had before. There was no way that we wanted to bring back memories right now, everything was too fresh.

She snored and rolled over, snuggling into the pillow. Her arms struggled, searching for someone next to her. But he wasn't there either. Harry was off in some unknown place in Illinois. I felt terrible that he had been moved leaving Marcel all alone. Then again, Marcel was used to being alone and Harry was not.

I sat up in bed and looked at the empty spot next to me. Tears quickly sprang to my eyes at the thought of Marcel sleeping in that dirty cell. My heart ached so much for him that I got out of bed and began to pace back and forth trying to figure out something to do.

The carpeted floorboards creaked under my weight, each creak becoming louder and louder in my ears. Faster and faster I paced, bringing my thumb up to my mouth and chewing furiously at the skin around my nail. Emily sat up in her bed and watched me quietly before saying something. I saw her tired brown eyes following my movements back and forth.

"Why are you pacing?" She rubbed at her eyes, I could see the dark purple circles under them. My eyes must look the same considering I had gotten no sleep at all last night. Marcel was the only thing that had been on my mind lately.

"How much is it to bail out Marcel?" I blurt and she shakes her head.

"We don't have enough."

"How much?" I stop pacing and glare at her. She needs to give me a straight answer before I go insane. As if I am not already halfway there either.

"Thirty thousand dollars." Emily chirps and throws the covers off of herself. Her long delicate fingers run through her messy hair. A small tangle catches and she yanks at her hair before it smoothly runs through.

"Damn it!" I curse and resume my pacing. A way, I need to find a way to get him.

"Do you want to visit him again today? Officer R-, I mean my mother isn't working." Emily corrects herself as she slides a hoodie over her pink tank top. She slept in her jeans so next she begins to slide on her white Vans.

"You know her schedule?" I ask and she nods quickly.

"Of course. I have my ways. I'm not as innocent as I look all the time." She says simply, this time it was her that was scaring me.

What else has she done that I don't know about? What exactly could she have meant by that.

"I don't think we should go."

"Why?" She stops and sits back down on the bed. Her blonde hair is being pulled into a ponytail as she stares up at me.

"We need to come up with a way to get the money." I don't have an exact plan yet, but I fear if I see Marcel, I'll forget about everything and possibly faint again.

"What about your money you have? Or does Marcel have money from his parents?" Emily stands back up from the bed and grabs her purse. She slings the brown leather bag on her shoulder as I cautiously nod my head. ”It looks like you don’t even have to pay your hospital bills. Although, I don’t know that for sure.”

"Where are you going with this?" My arms cross and I wait for the answer. I'm starting to have doubts about my best friend. What if she really doesn’t want to help me? Ever since she told me she was related to Johnny, I couldn’t help the thoughts that overtook my mind.
