Chapter 1

"Ridley, get your ass out of bed its time for training!" Eva yelled for the third time this morning.

I grumbled, but eventually got out of bed. I knew training was even more import now within the camp now that a scout said the kings guard was going to be searching this part of the woods for any unmated females they haven't brought in for this years game yet.

I was halfway through my shower when the alarm sounded.

"shit!" I scrambled out of the shower, quickly putting on the clothes i had ready for training.

"Ridley, lets go! its not a drill this time!" I heard Eva yell from down stairs.

I ran down the stairs grabbing my dagger from my bedside table. You can never be too careful.

"Did you have any nightmares last night, Ridley?" Eva asked, urgency lacing her voice.

"Of course I did! I have one every night since you took the tracker out. Why?" I replied, a little annoyed she has stopped me during this time.

"Did you have a nightmare about them attacking?" She asks again, looking around to make sure no one is in hearing distance.

"No, you know I only have nightmares about how each game. What is the matter with you anyway? We need to get to the wall." I responded, pushing past her so i could get to the wall in order to help the others.

Once I reached the wall Sister Louisa started yelling commands at everyone.

"Ridley, you'll be going outside the wall for defence. Your wolf is the strongest we have, we will need her to help us today." She said directly to me, knowing what it meant if I got caught on the other side of the wall.

I nodded knowing if I didn't go then it would mean the difference between everyone being safe and everyone being taken. This was a risk I was willing to take if it meant these women weren't taken.

I ran back down the steps and out the secret entrance, the same one I stepped through with Eva only 2 years before. I released the breath I didn't realise I'd been holding.

The battle had already started by the time I got to my post. Everyone who could shift already had, it looks like we were fighting a loosing battle. I quickly shifted and ran into the thick of the fight. The plan is not to kill anyone only to push them back far enough that they leave us alone.

I was fighting a brown wolf who was slightly smaller than me when I was hit in the side by a pitch black wolf. I quickly got back up snapping my jaws at the wolf that just hit me. He was the first wolf I'd seen that was bigger than me. I was slightly shocked at this but soon recovered.

I went to lunge at him when I felt a sharp pain in my back leg. I yelped falling down and shifting without my command. I quickly tried to stand up knowing that if I didn't then I would be taken for sure.

The black wolf shifted back, the most handsome man I have ever seen was stood before me. His piercing blue eyes bore into me, his sculpted body rippled as he stepped towards me. Someone handed him a pair of shorts, I looked around and noticed the fighting had stopped. All the women who were around my age on this side of the wall were being carted into vans that had appeared from no where. The women who were too old or too young were being knocked out and lent up against the wall.

"Your wolf is very large, why is that?" The handsome man asked, snapping me back to the fact that he was stood right in front of me.

"It's only because this big once I had re-access to her." I responded, keeping a watchful eye on the men that were starting to surround me.

"Very odd, only a royal can have a wolf that big." He stepped closer to me. I stepped back countering his move. They mustn't find out who I was, my mother had kept me hidden my whole life because of who my father was. My sister was only my half sister, we had different fathers but no one ever knew.

I felt a strong hand grip my arm, then another on my other arm. I struggled trying to get out of their grip.

"There is no point in struggling, you wont be able to escape a second time. Put her in the van with the others." He turned and headed towards an SUV.

I still tried to struggle as they dragged me towards one of the vans. They slammed the door in my face once i was inside. I looked out the window and saw Sister Louisa sat on the top of the wall sobbing into the arms of Eva. I didn't know if or when i would see the place i now called home again.
