the soft summer breeze blew back the hair from her face, but it was not enough to keep the poor thing from perspiring on the hot day.

"yah, minhee! can we get ice cream? please?" she whined, tugging on her friend's arm, her other being used to browse through shopping racks. she stomped her feet like a small child throwing a tantrum.

"haneul-ah," minhee warned with a dangerous tone. "i told you, we can get some after mommy's done, okay?"

haneul slapped her best friend's arm. "stop calling yourself my mom. it's weird."

"why, because i haven't found you a daddy yet?" minhee teased with a wink.

"i should fight you right now."

"try. no ice cream for you." haneul pouted and crossed her arms. she stomped over to a nearby bench and pulled out her phone to pass the time. her phone dinged, notifying her of a text.

she grinned, clicking the power button. minhee walked over to her, having purchased finally. "yah, what are you smiling about?"

"bin's buying meat," her cheesy grin widening. minhee rolled her eyes. "do i have to drop you off?"

"no, we can go home together and then i'll take myself."

"you're not staying with him?"

haneul snorted, but stopped herself. "should i?"

the older girl rolled her eyes. "i mean, yeah. after he debuts, you won't have time to be with him anymore. stop staying at my house and mooching off of me," she scolded. "live in your own house. you know, the one you share with him."

the younger sighed dramatically. "fine."

she began to bounce up and down. "ice cream now?" her sunshine radiating giggle made the mother give in immediately.

the two held hands as they walked down the street, turning the corner to find a small, pastel ice cream shop hidden away.

"this one?" the taller girl asked, pointing a long, delicate finger. the tiny one nodded enthusiastically, ombré waves bouncing.

"kang minhee?" a voice suddenly called. a small whine emitted from the small girl, knowing her date with ice cream would be postponed even further. she backed away, sulking, and not wanting to introduce herself.

minhee engaged into what seemed an excitable conversation with the passing young man, forgetting all about the young woman she had brought with her, who was now slinking further and further away.

thinking her friend would take a while, she saw it best that she go in and begin ordering first, and then make minhee pay for it when she came in. she nodded to herself, and pushed through the glass door, a chime twinkling at her arrival.
