We drove to the flat in Josh's car, mainly because I no longer trusted myself to drive.
'Promise you'll stay with me?' I asked, and looked over.
'Of course.' he replied with a smile.
My hands were cold but sweaty and I could feel the hairs rise on the back of my neck as the house slowly became smaller in the rear view mirror.
'I want to go home.' I mumbled.
'You do?' Josh slowed down.
'No. Not really. I just don't know what else to say.'
Josh breathed a laugh and sped up again.
When we arrived at the flat, he stood outside with me.
'I'm scared.' I mumbled.
'You should be. You haven't been anywhere like this since you were in the accident, so it's obviously gonna be weird. But... It's also just the flat. You've been here so many times, you know these people. No one is going to hurt you, and you aren't going to hurt yourself, because I'm gonna be right there.'
I smiled and fumbled with my sleeve.
He opened the door and we got into the lift up to the flat.
'Hold my hand.' I whispered.
He wrapped his fingers around mine as we ascended. We stayed connected till the moment he lifted his hand to knock on the door.
Then, we went in.
