I wake up to the annoying sound of my phone ringing. Imagine Dragons is not always the first thing I want to hear in the morning. I check the caller ID and see that it is my best friend, Ashley, calling me. "What could you possibly want from me while I'm trying to sleep"
"Avery, what the hell are you still doing in bed it's 6:45, you're gunna be late for your first day at your new school!" Ashley replied.
"It's 6:45? Oh no I'm late!"
Yes, today is my first day of school. I just recently moved to England about a week ago so my room is really just a mattress on the floor surrounded by boxes. Ashley was the first friend I met when moved here and we instantly clicked. I crawl out of my 'bed' and rush into my bathroom. I line the waterline on my eyes while black and apply mascara while my hair straightener heats up. I brush the knots out of my hair and run the flat iron through it then quickly throw on a cute tank top covered with a cardigan, light blue skinny jeans, and galaxy vans. After looking in the mirror and feeling somewhat satisfied I head downstairs.
"Good morning Avery" my mother greets me as I reach the bottom of the stairs. She has been taking the move hard since we have been through a lot together. My dad abused my mom and occasionally when mom wasn't home, he abused me. My brother couldn't handle it any more so one day he just took off. That was really tough for me to take in. Soon after, my mother and I had had enough and we packed our bags and left one day while my 'father' was at work. I was happy to get away from my old school because ever since 7th grade I was bullied extremely bad. I used to cut, yes I know it's bad but I couldn't help it. Nobody knows what I've been through except Ashley knows a little.
I grab my keys after quickly drinking a cup of coffee and run out the door off to my new school. The worst part about starting at a new school is starting at a new school in the middle of the semester and as a senior. At least This is my last year of school until I go off to college. I pull into the parking lot at my new school, take the keys out of the ignition, and step out. "Here goes nothing". I try my best to ignore the awkward stares people give me as I walk through the hallways attempting to find my locker. All of a sudden I am hit by somebody hurrying to get to class. My books fall all over the floor and I feel my cheeks blush as people turn their heads and laugh.
"I'm so sorry," the boy says
He has a thick British accent and before I even look up at him I can already tell he is a nerd.
"Whatever," I reply rather harshly.
I look up and we make eye contact. I was right, talk about nerd. His hair is in messy curls on top of his head, he has the biggest black glasses I have ever seen on his face with tape in the middle so you can tell they've been broken at one point, suspenders, a white button down shirt, and khakis.
"Could you maybe watch where you're going next time?" I ask the nerd.
"Won't happen again"
After exchanging looks one more time me and the nerd who ran into me go our separate ways.
The bell rings telling me that I am late for class. I look at my schedule and see my first period class is calculus with with Mr. Hendrickson, room 245. At least I have Ashley in most of my classes. I finally find the class I am scheduled and knock lightly at the door. Mr. Hendrickson opens the door and all eyes are directed at me.
"I, um, I'm sorry, I got lost" I manage to say.
"That's quite alright. Miss Connors is it? Well it appears we have a seat for you at that table right next to Harry, let's not make this a habit though, I expect you to be at class on time tomorrow." Mr. Hendrickson says
I look around the room and see Ashley trying so hard not to have a laughing fit, my eyes then go to the seat Mr. Hendrickson told me to sit at. It's him. The nerd. My seat is right next to the nerd who ran into me. Great. I make my way over to my seat and set my books down on the table.
"He-hello" Harry stutters.
"Um Hi.."
"I-I'm Ha-Harry, Harry Styles"
"Avery Connors"
"I'm sorry for bumping into you today"
"Ugh. Can you please not talk to me, trust me sitting here next to you is the last thing I want to do. I've had a rough day so far and I really don't want to talk to you" I tell Harry, a little too harsh
"O-okay..." Harry says.
