Proving They're Worth (Zodiac)

Chapter 9

Day 5

Morning had come and both Meghan and Oliver slept peacefully.  However, as Meghan opened her eyes, all she saw was tufts of brown hair, causing her to freak out and push Oliver to the ground.

"Oh my - Meghan?!  Why did you do that?!" Oliver complained, propping himself up with his arms as he glared at the girl,"And why the heck is your face red?"

Meghan crossed her arms and looked away,"Nothing," She mumbled.

Oliver sighed and sat up, moving slightly away from Meghan,"Well, since you woke me up, you have to provide me food!  I'm starving!"  

The short girl pulled her backpack towards her and searched for food.  She then threw him a sandwich, grabbing one for herself.  Oliver stared at the sandwiches before chuckling,"You really have a thing for these don't you?"

"Shut up," Meghan mumbled and taking a bite of her sandwich.

The duo ate in silence before Oliver brought up the question that has been on his mind since last night,"Hey Meghan,"

"Hm?"

"How... how did we manage to survive a fall like that?" Oliver asked, indicating towards the cliff that they had fallen off from,"Like, I can barely even see the top.  I barely remember it, but I remember you did something.  That's what saved us, right?" He looked deeply into her eyes, all sense of humor gone.

Meghan sighed and placed her sandwich on her lap.  She dug through her backpack once again, before pulling out her small satchel that contained her orb.  Pulling out the orb, Olivers eyes widened to see it had cracked,"This... I guess while we were falling and I hit the walls, this must've cracked in the process.  When it happened, I suddenly felt myself floating and that's when I grabbed you to at least lessen the impact of our fall,"

"Oh," Oliver looked at the cracked silver orb in awe.  He then smiled and chuckled,"So I guess I owe you one huh?"

"No,"Meghan stated,"I was just simply saving myself from Stevie and Acacia's wrath if we ever manage to get out of here and find them again,"

They continued to eat in silence before they heard a growl.  Turning towards the noise, they noticed a cave which they were sure wasn't there before.  Meghan quickly finished her sandwich and shoved the remains in her backpack.  Slinging her bag on, she cautiously made her way towards the cave.

"Meghan!?" Oliver asked, stuffing the rest of his sandwich into his mouth, before packing up and following her,"What are you doing?!"

"Obviously, going into this cave,"Meghan replied with a roll of her eyes.

Olivers eyes widened,"Are you crazy!?  Don't you know!?  Curiosity kills the cat!"

"Do I look like a cat to you?"

"...sort of -"

"Hey!"

"But that's not the point!  My point is, that's why the people in horror movies always die!  They get too curious!"

Meghan sighed, and turned around to face Oliver,"Look, it's either you stay here by yourself, or come with me," She turned back around and walked into the cave.  However, before she got far, she smirked,"What happened to the cocky Oliver?"

Oliver sighed, and followed Meghan,"I hate you,"

"Hate you too," Meghan mumbled.

Soon, as they lost their natural source of light, they heard a deep growling beside them, making them both stop in fear.
