"So your man bought you a dog?" Tauni teased. She watched as Adisi poured Liberty a bowl of food and water.
"First of all, he's not my man. Second of all, Liberty is not all that bad." Adisi shot back, standing up straight from her previous crouched position.
"How come I've never met him?" Tauni asked. Tauni sat up on the kitchen counter to get a better look at Adisi's lying ass.
"Met who?"
"Don't play dumb. You know I have connections and I'll find out who the ol' boy is."
"Whatever. Mind ya business and get you a man Miss Charles."
Adisi walked off to find the large dog. She wanted to make sure he ate before she went to practice. Coach Sydel would lose her shit if Adisi showed up late.
"ADISI! Your bae wants to speak to you!" Tauni shouted from the kitchen. Poor little Adisi left her phone with little old Tauni. Thinking to herself, Tauni saw no problem in answering a cal from 'Da Real MVP '
"Hello?"
"Adisi, baby. How's Liberty?"
"This isn't Adisi, but it's her best friend, partner in crime, sister, and mom."
Adisi snuck up on Tauni, moving silently so Tauni wouldn't hear her. She actually wanted to hear the conversation the two were going to have.
"Her best friend? What's your name? Wait-- Are you Tauni?"
"Yes I am Tauni. What is your name? Adisi won't tell me and I will find out who her man is."
Stephen chuckled and was about to respond until Adisi finally jumped in. "His name is MYOB"
Tauni jumped up, nearly dropping Adisi's phone in the process. "Girl, you scared the living Jesus in me! I should smack you for that!"
Adisi laughed and wrapped her arms around Tauni's shoulders. She squeezed the girl lightly and pressed a kiss to her cheek. "I love you Tauni, but please give me my phone."
Tauni shoved Adisi off of her and handed the girl her phone. She then walked away, mumbling about how 'gay' Adisi was.
"Hello? It's me."
"Ugh. I hate that song." Stephen dragged out his voice and Adisi smiled at its huskiness.
"How are you enjoying your gift?"
Adisi paused, trying to find the right words. "He's. Well. It's. Actually, I don't know."
"Can you say 'Thank you Stephen. Liberty is the best dog in the world and I love him.' "
"Bye."
"Nope! Don't go yet. Sydel says you've got a game coming up."
"Yeah... and?"
"Based on how well you do. our little classes may have to end."
After his statement, all Stephen could hear was light, quiet breathing.
"Are you there? Ad-"
"Cool. Great. Listen Stephen, I've got to go. I'll see you around."
"Bye"
There was a click. Adisi hung up with an odd feeling in her heart.
