"What do you think you're doing!"

Bang!! A lamp that was sent flying crashed into the wall next to the bedroom door. She stood there at the door, suitcase in hand looking down at the broken lamp. Sanna felt like her insides stirred up for a fleeting moment. Her back to him, she dared not look at him for fear Chas might see the apprehension in her eyes.

She proceeded out the bedroom and down the hall to get Mattew, her seven year old son. Her eyes evading the pictures on the walls which filled her with nostalgia. They carried her back to the days before she became a Jew in World War II. The days when Chas was benevolent not merciless as he was now.

Mattew was asleep on his bed, wrapped up in his favorite blue sheets with a dirty-brown bear held close. As Sanna leaned foreward to wake him she heard a crash behind her.

"You ungreatful.....!" Chas grasped her arm,"Where do you think you're going? And with my son no less?"

Crash! He slamed her against the wall, knocking down Mattew's box of toys. Sanna crawled on her hands and knees trying to get away. It was futile though, Chas grabbed her leg and pulled her back. Mattew jumped up in shock at all Sanna's screaming. Taken aback for a moment at the scene that was playing out before his eyes. Sanna on her back fighting for her very life with Chas on top of her.

"What are you doing to my mom!" Mattew hopped off the bed and dived on top of Chas, "What are you doing to my mom!"

"Get off me you treacherous runt!" Chas violently threw Mattew against the side of the bed.

Sanna let out a shriek of concern for her son. Mattew stumbled back to his feet, the sting of pain and hatred surged through his body. In blind fury he grabbed the first thing that was in his reach on the floor, a red metal firetruck. With one smooth swoop it was all over. Chas's robust body fell motionless on Sanna. She pushed him off and lunged foreward to hold her son, tears falling from her eyes. Mattew, trembling with both fear and triumph dropped to his knees slowly letting the firetruck slip to the ground. Clink!
