'Don't tell me,' she begged,
Reckoning lies not truth in
Easy words and easier smiles,
And yet craved love all the more.
'Make it real for me, in your
Silences and touch.'
'Of course,' he answered, 'I'd
Fight tigers for you, too.'
Exhausted, she closed her eyes,
Daring one last time to trust
In him a chance that somehow
Even they might win.
