Kian
"Reece?" I call out into the house. "I'm home!" I walk through the door, taking my shoes off. I hear stomps coming down the stairs. I look over and see a mop of brown wavy hair before a small human is attached to my legs.
"Daddy! You're home!" She exclaims and I ruffle her hair. "Mommy is in the kitchen, she's baking again." I allow Mila to drag me into the kitchen, where I see her.
Just as stunning as ever.
Her hair is tied up into a bun and she is very concentrated on piping the icing on the cupcakes. She finishes the cupcake, before glancing up at me. "Hey, love." She says, before icing the next cupcake.
My heart stops when she talks, and I watch her like I haven't seen her in months. Mia's arms are still wrapped around me as we both watch Reece. She finishes the last cupcake before picking three up and walking over to Mia and I. She hands Mia one and the other to me.
Mia runs off, leaving Reece and I alone. I take the wrapper off of the paper slowly, watching as she does the same. I take a bite, vanilla and chocolate like heaven on my taste buds. We sit in silence while enjoying the cupcakes.
We finish the cupcakes, putting the wrappers in the trash. Reece places her arms around my neck, my hands going to rest on her waist. She slowly closes the space between us, our lips brushing-
I jolt awake, feeling the empty mattress for her. I sigh, obviously finding nothing. I run my hands over my face, before getting up. Ricky and I had moved out after only a couple months, and I found myself a new room mate.
I check my phone, 8:50AM it says. I go out into the living room of mine and Hunters new apartment. Boxes litter the floor even though we've been here for nearly two weeks now. I see a mop of dark brown curls over the counter, and another figure on the counter.
"Morning, you two." I mumble out to Hunter and his girlfriend, Jules. Hunter looked sideways at me, our brown eyes meeting for a second. I look at Jules, her hazel eyes watching her boyfriend make eggs. Her ombre hair is in a loose bun on the top of her head, flopping to the side a bit and she was wearing one of Hunters t-shirts.
I reach over Jules' shoulder, opening the cabinet and getting out a bowl. I place it on the counter, getting the cereal from the pantry. Mine and Hunter's apartment might be messy, but we don't fuck around with our food.
I pour some into my bowl, placing it back where I got it and repeat with the milk. I get a spoon before locking myself into my room again, leaving Hunter and Jules.
I open up my phone, before heading to my pictures. I look at all of the old ones I took with her, a numb feeling inside of me. I finish my cereal, getting up to put my bowl and spoon in the dishwasher.
"Hey, man." Hunter says to me from the living room.
"Wheres Jules?"
"She left, but anyways, is there something you're not telling me?" He asks, "Like a girl? I've seen your phone. Who is she?"
I stiffen at his words, before frantically looking around the small apartment, anything to distract me. I've told people about Reece before, never actually talking too much about her.
"Hey, it's okay if you don't want to talk about it. But it would probably help if you did..." He offers, and I pause.
"I'll tell you." I say after having an internal battle. "I'll tell you everything about her."
"Okay." He says, gesturing to the spot beside him on the couch. I sat down before I began talking about my love.
"Her name's Reece. We were friends forever, basically. We were so close because of us being neighbors, all through elementary and middle school. But once highschool started, we grew apart. I joined the popular group and left her in the dust. Sure, we had one similar friend, but other than that I left her all alone. We still hung out, but never at school. I would drive her to school and most days I would drive her home, if I didn't get too caught up in everything. There was one night in specific, I had forgotten to get her because I was held back with the group. So I showed up at her place, wanting to make up for it. We did what we usually do, chill watching a movie and such. But we managed to get into a butter war." I say, pausing to laugh at the memory, chasing her down the side walk with butter covering both of us.
