Chapter 2: Past Events Pt.1

(Before the deaths of Nightfall and Rosebud)  ~Midnight Shadow's POV~

"Big brother! Catch me!" Nightfall said, running around the castle.

She loved when I would play catch or show her some of my magic tricks. Nightfall was a unicorn mare, with a light black coat and with a light gray mane and tail. "OK, Nightfall. Just one time." I said, hurting from training.

"Why, big brother?" She asked me, with a worried look.

"I over did my training today." I told her. She hated when I over did myself.

"Then c-can w-we go to o-our r-room?" She asked me, blushing.

"Want me to carry you there?" I asked her. Let me take a minute to explain. Nightfall always sleeps with me, and the same goes for Rosebud and Lotus.  She nodded yes, then I bent down to put her up, when Lotus walked in the throne room.

"Hey, Midnight and Nightfall." He said.

"Hey, big brother!" Nightfall said to Lotus, to which he smiled.

"Bud, is in the garden?" I him, using her nickname; me and Lotus give our little sister.

"Yeah, she's been worried about you; saying that you are training to much." He said, as Rosebud was walking in the room. Rosebud was a Pegasus mare, with a tan coat and with a red mane and tail.

"Midnight, please drink this, it'll help you." She said, walking to me and then reaching under her right wing to hand to a small container of liquid. "Here, Midnight; drink this it'll made you feel better." She said again, crying.

"Why are you crying, Bud?" I asked to mare.

"B-Because y-you a-always hurt yourself." She answered me, hugging my legs.

"I know, but I want to protect the only family; I have." I told her, with Lotus nodding.

"That's good to hear." We heard somepony say. When we all saw him.

"But, you ready knew." I said, knowing the other reason, even through none knew the secret me and Lotus shared. The truth behind, why me and my brother were the only ones of our kind in Equestia.

"Ha, that I do indeed, son." He said, sitting on his throne.

"We need to end this war, father!" We heard Luna, running in the throne room.

"I know, Luna." He said, when I put Nightfall down and began to walk out.

" Midnight, where are you going?" He asked me.

"To end this war." Was all I said. When the three mares in the room ran to me, tackling me down to the ground.

"Well, I can see where is going." Lotus said, walking towards us.

"No! No! Your not going! What happens if you get killed?!" Nightfall yelled at me.

"If my life ends this war, then so be it. You are all my family and I'll be damned if my family gets hurt!" I said, yelling at the cry mares. "Why care for me; when I'm not a pony? I'm here to protect you three mares. My life doesn't matter." As I finished talking, I felt a hoof across my face. To this everyone was shocked, as the pony who done it was Luna.

"HOW DARE YOU SAY THAT!!! YOU AND LOTUS BOTH MATTER!!! WHO CARES IF YOUR NOT A PONY!!! ME, CELESTIA, NIGHTFALL, AND ROSEBUD; ALL LOVE YOU!!!" She said, yelling with tears beginning to form in her blue eyes.

"She's right, brother." Lotus said, walking to me. I just looked at him, knowing he was right.

"I'm still going to end this war, Luna." I told her, only to cause her to cry.
