Prologue
"Give it back!" Brooke Parker yelled to Landon Williams, the 10 year old pain in her side, that she happens to have a major crush on, will she ever admit it? Of course not. He's one year older then her, and they've been bestfriends since they were born. When Brooke was born, Mrs. Tracy always had to watch her since her parents work all the time, they leave her with their neighbor, which she loved, she's grown so close to them. Nobody really knows what happened to Mr. Williams, Brooke mentioned it once, but saw the sadness in Mrs. Tracy's eyes, so she just changed the subject. Although she is young, she understands .
"Never!" Landon yells, as he waves the diary in her face, Brooke's most personal thoughts are in there, so she bursts into tears. Landon immediately drops her diary, and drops down next to her, engulfing her in a hug.
"I'm so sorry, you can have it, I didn't mean to hurt you, I didn't even look in it Brookie" Landon whispers in her ear.
"It's okay Lany" she replies with a smile stoping her waterworks. They've been calling eachother these nicknames since she was 3 and he was 4.
"Brooke honey, your mother and father are here, and they want to talk to you about something." Mrs. Tracy yells into the room the kids are in. Brooke smiles, grabs Landon's hand, and runs with him into the living room, where her parents are talking with Mrs. Tracy. She notices the tears in her mothers eyes, threatening to fall, so she runs to her mom.
"Are you okay mama, what's wrong?!" Brooke asks, worry clear in her voice.
"Your father and I have some news" she replies, sharing a look with her husband, and clearing her throat awkwardly.
"What's going on, what's the news?" She asked, with a confused look on her face
"Well, your dad was offered a new job offer in California, and it offers more money, better benefits, so I'm afraid we are moving away from Virginia." Brooke's heart shattered with every word. She turned to Landon, and wrapped her arms around him, crying into his shoulder.
"Don't let them take me away Lany!" She sobbed into his ear. His heart was breaking with every cry she let out. He wanted so badly for her to stay, but he knew she had to go.
"I'm gonna miss you so much Brookie" he disappointedly replied.
They stayed like this for a few more moments, before her mother ushered her out of the door to go home and pack. There flight was at 1:00pm tomorrow. Since they lived right next to her, the walk was short, and deadly silent. As they arrived into the house, Brooke ran up to her room, to distract her from thinking of Landon, she began to pack immediately. She was done by 1:00am. She would've went to sleep, but instead she was crying her eyes out, and couldn't go to sleep. Eventually she did though, because she woke up the next morning and looked at her clock, to see it was almost 12. She ran downstairs to see the whole house empty of her family photos, furniture, and all the cabinets empty. She went outside to see her parents putting the last of the stuff in the car. As she past them they said they were leaving in 15 minutes, so she ran to Landon's house, letting herself in, but didn't get far before bumping into someone, making her fall on the ground, she looked up to see those beautiful hazel eyes.
"Thank god you aren't gone yet." Landon visibly relaxed, he pulled her in for a hug, neither of them wanting to let go. They took each others hand, and walked outside.
"5 more minutes!" Her mom yelled out in the distance, starting the car, making her nightmare even more real.
Landon took her hands, and kissed her on the cheek. He looked deeply into her ocean blue eyes, feeling his whole world coming down.
"I don't want you to leave me Brookie" he whispered into her ear, letting a tear roll down his cheek.
"I know Lany, I wish I could stay here with you, you better call me everyday, and skype me." She said in-between sobs.
"Of course I will." He chuckled a little, before continuing. "Will you promise me something?" His tone changed serious.
"Anything" she replied just as serious.
"Don't forget me" he put his pinky up to her.
"That's not even a possibility." She wrapped her pinky with his. Not holding back her tears now, they fall from her eyes like a waterfall. He takes her into another hug, hating hearing her cry. They didn't even notice her mom pulling up.
"It's time to go Brooke!" Her mom impatiently demanded.
Landon whispered in her ear the 3 words she longed to hear out of his mouth.
"I love you."
She felt her heart beating fast, and wondered if he could feel it, this just made her cry harder if it was even possible, as she was getting into the car, she managed to get a few words out, that she was sure he heard.
"I love you too Landon."
