The Syren calls.

She hums.

She sings.

With that melancholy voice of hers.

The Syren screams.

She wails.

She screeches.

And the ocean floor shakes in her wake.

Hear the Syren.

Hear her whisper into the currents.

Hear her echoing melody drift through the waves.

Reach her.

Embrace her.

Love her.

Fight for her.

Give life to her.

Kill for her.

Hear the Syren.

Fear the Syren.

My father was a fool.

He thought he could return alive. Such foolishness.

There was a legend, passed through generations and generations of our people. A legend of a Syren.

It was said that she was a beautiful, regal creature, with the glittering scales and tail of a mermaid. Fins that glowed effervescently on her ears and long slender fingers on her scaled hands. Large, pink eyes topped with long lashes, and a hypnotic smile which could lull men into her wake.

Her voice was majestic; a sound which could control people. She used that power to draw men to her, then sucked their souls out. That is why she was also called the Vampire of the Sea.

She was dangerous. Far too dangerous to live with the other creatures in the ocean in harmony. And thus she was sealed, deep into the Forgotten Reefs, the most extreme place in the ocean.

The ocean had seen many centuries of peace after the sealing of the Syren.

Until now.

"He isn't coming back, Mother," I murmured gently to my weeping mother. "The Syren has taken him,"

My mother whirled around to face me, tears streaked across her face. Her eyes burned with despair and rage as she glared at me. "You don't know that!" She snapped, her voice choked with sobs. "You don't know that!!"

"It's already been five months, Mother." I said softly, trying not to worsen my mother's mood. "He said he would be back in one,"
