In chapter 4, Get in the Ring, Quint mentions that Forlorn smells like baby powder. This is why:

Forlorn could sense that Quint could smell the baby powder on her, just by looking at his face. She wouldn't let anyone know of course, but she kept a huge sack of it in the very bottom of her closet.
When she was alone, she'd pull out that sack, and sprinkle it all about her room, and rub a little on herself, just because of the scent. The scent that reminded her of so many things. Things that made her happy once, but now only brought her pain.
It was before she was Changed. Her little brother, only two years old, still sometimes suffering from rashes caused by his nappies.
Her mother would rub baby powder upon it, and the child would still cry, although he'd calm down a little afterwards.
One day, the boy had another rash, but his mother was in the toilet and he was too impatient to wait for her to come out.
The next thing Forlorn knew, there was a cry from her mother down the hall and she came rushing over. Forlorn looked in the room to see that there was one little boy, covered in white powder, his pants pulled down, and was rubbing his bottom where a red nappy rash was growing. The powder had gone everywhere, and it surrounded him in a white cloud on the floor as well as covering his face, shirt, arms and legs.
His mother was trying to scold him for not waiting for her, but she was laughing too hard, and Forlorn had started laughing too.
About an hour later, they were all covered in the powder, trying as hard as possible to clean it up but getting it all over them instead.
The smell was so strong that it stayed upon them all for a week, but Forlorn still loved that memory, and so every week, she would pull out a large handful of baby powder, and poured it all over herself, sobbing silently as the same memory came to her.
The same memory.
Everytime.
"I'm gonna break your leg for burning that book," Passive murmured to Perky, stopping Forlorn's train of thought. She sighed, held up her hand and stepped into the ring.
