Age 18

"You've accomplished a lot this year, right Peyton?" The interviewer of the local sports network asked Peyton.

"Yeah, it's been an eventful year. Last year I was just playing with my friends on the local team, but now playing for the Australian national team -- that's unreal." She responded.

Truth was, playing for the national team wasn't what she thought it was going to be like. The constant hours of travelling and whe she wasn't travelling, she was practicing with the team. Since she grew up playing with guys, she got asked to play for the guy's team.

"What's it like playing with the other gender?" She interviewed Peyton.

"To be honest, it's difficult. They're all so much bigger than me but I put up with them and they put up with me. On the field they treat me like one of the guys so I don't have to worry about preferential treatment either." Peyton told her.

Peyton loved playing with the guys; they were like her home away from home. After Ashton suddenly disappeared, everything in her life changed. Her older brother decided to go away and study abroad in America and her parents agreed on separating. Nothing seemed to be working out for her, that was until Jerry Randen came along.

Coach Jerry Randen was like the John Wooden of lacrosse for Australia. She thanks the constant travel to America for her knowledge on John Wooden, a legendary basketball coach. When he offered her a try out for the national team, she knew her life was making a turn around.

Playing for Australia's national team was her dream, but it was also a dream she shared with Ashton. Peyton remembered the many times they would act out game situations where it would just be the two of them going in for a goal. It was them against everyone else and they knew they could take them, as long as they were together.

The day that Ashton left, Peyton swore that she wouldn't have anything to do with him, but when she found out he was in some famous band, she started to accept it. She saw how much fun he was having on stage, touring the world, and she realized that maybe lacrosse wasn't his dream. Maybe Ashton Irwin was destined to be a rockstar, but he didn't want to accept it until it was too late.

"Now one final question from me, then we will be taking questions from fans. What's your relationship status; single or taken?" She winked at her, which Peyton was honestly confused by.

Peyton giggled to cover her confused face and said, "Single. I don't have time for dating with my schedule. It wouldn't be fair to either of us because I wouldn't be able to spend any time with him."

She took a couple questions from fans which consisted of them wanting to know the same exact things each time. How many times does she need to say her favorite color or what she eats for breakfast?

Her fans are the reason why she's where she is right now, but sometimes they need to figure out some different questions. It would keep interviews more exciting if they wouldn't ask the same damn thing every single time.

"That's all the time we have for today. I'm here with Peyton James and together we're signing off." The interviewer spoke into her microphone.

"Thanks for being with us. I'm sure Oregon weather is a lot different than Australia." She thanked Peyton one more time before heading off to her dressing room.

"Alright, you ready to go?" Her older brother, Christopher, asked her.

Since Christopher was on winter break, he decided to go to all of Peyton's west coast interviews. The California weather was amazing compared to Oregon but he would do anything to spend some more time with his little sister.

"Almost. Are we going to that restaurant you were talking about last night?"

"Yeah, I have reservations for us at seven tonight. Now we can go back to the hotel and relax for a little bit, maybe even go swimming in the pool." He suggested since it was something they used to do when they were little.

Peyton smiled at that idea and nodded. She loved spending time with her older brother, especially since he isn't around much anymore. The times like that one were the ones that she would remember so she wanted to make the most of it.

"C'mon, let's go. I swear, you're a sloth at times." She criticized her brother and stuck her tongue out.

"Whatever you dirt-bag."

Such a lovely family they are, aren't they?

When they got to the hotel, she dashed for the elevator and made sure it shut in Christopher's face. She then pressed all the buttons so he would have to wait or take the stairs. Observing people definitely thought she was an odd one, especially an elderly couple who wanted to take the elevator.

Finally, Peyton made it to their hotel room and saw a struggling Christopher come sulking up the stairs. He walked twelve flights of stairs because a man started to hit him with his cane. He'll never know why, but it forced him to walk up all those stairs.

"What the hell is wrong with you?" He tried to yell at her, but he still hadn't caught his breathe.

"I'm sorry. I didn't think there were actually people here." She said in between her fits of laughter.

"This is a hotel, Peyton. Why wouldn't there be people here?" He scolded her, making her realize that she said something so stupid.

"You know, you should thank me. We're probably going to be eating a lot tonight so now you can gain some pounds." Peyton patted his growing stomach and walked into the hotel room.

Christopher let Peyton's joke go and laid down on his bed. Who knew following an eighteen year old girl would be so tiring?

"I'm too tired to go swimming so I'm going to take a nap." He informed her and started to drift off to sleep.

An hour after Christopher fell asleep, Peyton felt herself getting hungry. Suddenly some Oreo cookies sounded really tasty and she spotted some in the vending machine on her way to the room.

She left a note for her brother, doubting he'd see it but he'd freak out if he didn't know where she was. It was a quick and messy note, but she really wanted her Oreos. The more she thought about them, the hungrier she got.

Quietly she slipped out of their room and walked down the hall to the vending machine. To her surprise she saw someone kicking the machine and mumbling threats at it because his food wouldn't come out.

Strangely the voice sounded really familiar and Peyton knew exactly where she's heard it.

"Ashton?"
