The next day I awoke with a groan. Never before had sleeping in been so tempting. I wasn’t looking forward to battling Seth. After being kidnapped, watching someone be shot, and having my best friends attacked, you’d think I’d dread this a little less. But such was not the case. I would rather stay in bed and procrastinate for a few hours longer. Unfortunately, the second I woke up, Kimi was on my case.
“Rise and shine!” She said, flinging open the door to my room in the PokémonCenter. Her Eevee stood loyally at her feet. “We’re battling Jasmine today.”
I sighed and sat up. “Fine…but I’m only getting up if I get to battle her first.” I said like a stubborn child.
Kimi rolled her eyes. “Whatever.”
“I’ll hold you to that,” I said, climbing out of bed.
“Oh my Arceus…dude, put on some clothes! I didn’t want to see you in your boxers!” Kimi flushed and turned around, covering her eyes. “Call me when you’ve stepped out of caveman times.” Picking up the Eevee, she walked out of the room.
Déjà vu, I thought, changing into clothes. I grabbed my backpack and picked up a still-sleeping Gigi off my bed, placing her on my head. The tiny puffball had basically taken over the entire mattress somehow, and I fell asleep feeling like a pretzel.
I walked out to meet Kimi, and we headed out to the gym. “Where’s Reid?” I asked, eating an apple as we walked through Olivine. Kimi insisted that we skip breakfast and get to the gym before anyone else did.
Kimi raised an eyebrow. “When I walking up to your room, I saw him in a lip lock with the girl from yesterd-”
“Ahh! I don’t want to hear this!” I clamped my hands over my ears, nearly dropping the apple. “This is too adult for me!”
“Funny, I thought you were making out with the girl Reid told me about. Lulu, or something.” Kimi said, pursing her lips.
My head snapped up. “Luna? No, he has it all wrong. I only kissed her twice.”
“Whoop-dee doo.” She muttered, walking ahead of me. I frowned after her and jogged to catch up, tossing the apple in a trash bin on the way. We walked in silence until we came to the gym. Kimi turned to me. “Alright, you wanted to go first, so I’ll wait in the stands while you battle the first trainer.”
I nodded, and headed inside. As soon as my eyes adjusted to the darker lighting, I sighed. There was a long hallway made of steel. At the end was the battle ring where Jasmine would be, but she didn’t seem to be here. But it wasn’t completely desolate in the building…
“Jared! Welcome to my lair.” Crap.
Seth tossed a Pokéball into the air and caught it, grinning. “Finally figured it out that I’m your opponent, doggy?”
I sighed. “Do you really have to start this?”
He chuckled. “Just kidding. Oh, and you should be grateful I’m covering for you. Luna is royally pissed. She thinks you’re being an ass for ditching her. And she mentioned something about payback.”
