Derek looks and appreciates her gesture of comfort and sympathy but tells her he wants to be alone right now.
"sorry I just want to lay down and be by myself right now."
"That's fine Derek. If you need anything you know how to reach me." She says and walks toward her apartment.
"Bye Miranda" he says as he walks in to his apartment, and closes the door.
Derek sits on the couch and thinks about the news he was given this morning. His mom, has been feeling really sick lately and has been throwing up a lot. Derek starts to wonder if maybe it's just the flu, or food pointing. Than Derek's mind wonders if it's more serious and it's cancer. He starts to cry at the thought of losing his mom. He goes into his room and cries silently. He falls asleep on top of the covers soon after.
He wakes up to a phone call at 7:42 in the morning.
"Derek, it's Nick. Do you wanna get your mind off things and go to the mall today?" He asks.
"I don't know I'm supposed to be working on lyrics today and atop by the studio for and hour." Derek replies.
"Come on Derek. What do you want to do?"
