Marissa Watkins sighed as she rested her hands behind her, leaning back as her legs swung out over the murky waters of Lake Monroe. It was dark out, the only light emanating from a lamp post twenty yards to her right, but the beauty about this night lay far away.
Lights blinked and flickered like stars across the water, dazzling and beautiful in Marissa's eyes even though they kept her from seeing the true stars that rested up above. It appeared as though a fairy spilled her multicolored dust across the horizon and found the sight too dazzling to clean up.
Mars let her gaze flicker down and away from the glowing land ahead, and saw glinting red spots floating just above the surface of the water. The sight would have terrified someone that wasn't native to Florida, but to Marissa, they were just eyes. It was the comforting gaze of an alligator, ironic as that sounded. Mars found it relieving that such an intelligent creature was nearby in a world of people doing nothing but misunderstand each other, even if its only thought when it saw her was "Food".
Marissa could live with that.
