The world kept moving around you, even after your family's horrible death. Now you don't speak often, instead you travel with the few surviving members of the village. You had to keep moving like you've been doing for 22 years. The others with you had known you since childhood. Mitsu, who had been your first friend and the only one you ever responded to with speech. Senri, who had rescued you from a group of girls who were out to hurt you. Chibiko, who had found that you wouldn't eat and forced you to. And lastly Kurai, who had been the one to silently stay with you. None of the villages knew of the destruction of the Village Hidden in the Wind. The Wind village held their own chunnin exams every year. You had reached the anbu at age 8 right before the massacre.
Right now you were just reaching the southwest boundary of Sunagakure. You ran around their territory and began the journey to the leaf. There the others would be safe while you carried on with being chased and hunted. They didn't know of this plan and hopefully never would. Only one person knew. One single person out of the millions that were ninjas.
Hiruzen-sama. The only person that knew of the Village Hidden in the Wind. He had been younger then, and when you met him, you decided to be friends with him. He was smart, funny, and could pack a mean punch. You guys were like brother and sister. After debating for 20 years, you finally decided to visit him. You had stopped at the midway point and hid in the trees, waiting for dark to come so that a fire could be started. You decided the sun was taking too long so you decided to hunt.
"Suki are you going hunting again?" they chorused. You gave a small laugh at this and nodded.
"Can I come too?" Mitsu and Kurai asked. Again you nodded but this time with a smile. You had only traveled for ten minutes when you spotted 2 bucks. You pointed and then you guys began the hunt. They were dead as a doornail in less than a second. You went back to the others and dropped to you knees and began to gut the bucks. After you had all finished eating, you preserved the leftover pieces of meat for the next meal.
Morning came quicker than you thought and you were off. You had finally reached the Village Hidden in the Leaf territory. You all slipped on your anbu masks and walked to the gates. The guards then brought you to the hokage.
"WE HAVE VISITORS?!!" a familiar voice yelled.
The guard blanched and shoved all of you guys in. Seeing no immediate danger you stepped forward. But before you could take another one you were surrounded by jounin.
"We'd appreciate it if you took off you masks." A man with a bandana said. Looks like there is danger. He seemed to get angrier by the second. He began to stalk towards Mitsu who was frightened by the sight of these people. Right as he was about to attack, you appeared in front of Mitsu and took the hit. Unfortunately it knocked off your mask. Before it could even hit the floor you had gotten it back on all the while with your eyes closed.
"Suki!" they all yelled outraged. To knock off a person's mask in the Village Hidden in the Wind was an outragous decree of a fight. They all lined up against you, preparing to attack at your command within seconds. Before anyone could attack a voice rang out.
"Did you just say Suki?" a voice came from behind the jounin. Startled the jounin relaxed. At the mention of my name, I nodded and appeared near the voice. Now tense, the jounin spun around.
"Hiruzen-chan." my voice said. I began to slowly take off my mask. This action is only allowed when there is a person who has earned your respect. My face and eyes were now revealed to her alone, for my back was turned. His eyes began to tear, and he began to get up slowly. A flash of pain was all I needed to confirm my suspicions. I reached out and slowly pushed him down so he was in his chair.
"Suki is that really you? My god what happened to your eyes?" he asked concerned. Mitsu decided to answer this one.
"The whole Village was massacred. She managed to save the rest of us but when she saved Kurai they scarred her eyes." she said shakily.
"I'm fine now Hiruzen-chan. It doesn't hurt me to see. It slows down my kekkai genkai though. But it doesn't hurt I promise." I said. The others were astonished by how much I had just spoken. I hadn't spoken sentences but sometimes I would write sentences. The jounin were a little confused and so was Hiruzen-chan. Kurai was the one to answer this time.
"Suki hasn't spoken since the massacre. If she does it's only one word answers. Why she talks full sentences to a complete stranger AND takes off her mask is beyond my comprehension." he said. Seeing the jounins confusion about the mask, Chibiko answered,
" You see, masks in our village are common to see among the higher ranks. To show signs of respect to those higher than us, we would slowly take off our masks and show our eyes fully. If they were the same rank as us, you take your mask off, but close your eyes. This explains why we are excellent at hearing and fighting while blind. Suki is still anbu ranking so she can't show her face to jounins but can show her face but not eyes to anbu, but can show everything to a kage. The reason why we were prepared to fight is that if a person ranking lower knocks off your mask, it is a sign of disrespect and challenge. the winner of the fight gets to keep their respecting rank while the other is demoted to a rank lower than they were. The only way someone of a lower rank could see a higher ranker's face is if they were in a relationship of any kind. Be it love, friendship, or family." she explained quickly. Everyone's face darkened, they knew the fight wasn't over just as you knew. You calmly put your mask on and turned youself around to face the one who knocked off your mask earlier. He also calmly faced you.
"Names Morino Ibiki. We should fight down in the training fields." he said walking out the door. You all followed him down to see the training fields.
The fields were cleared and had long grass growing. The field was surrounded by trees and had a few paths branching out in different directions. You gestured for Chibiko to get your pack. She threw it and you caught it with your back turned. You shuffled through it until you found your old mask. The one you were using belonged to your older brother. You threw the mask towards Ibiki over your shoulder. you turned around after a few seconds. You sensed a genjutsu being used.
"Kai release." you said under your breath. Ibiki luckily hadn't heard you and began to charge. You let your eyes stay where they were to trick him into thinking that you were still in the genjutsu. The others were barely containing their laughter because their advanced hearing let them hear what you had said. When he was a foot away you swiped his feet and pinned him to the ground. He gasped and struggled but soon he figured out that you were much stronger than what your baggy clothes gave you credit for. Out of no where you saw him begin to blush. When you sat back on your haunches the blush grew. You stood up slowly and held out your hand to Ibiki.
Before he vanished like the others did moments ago you stood on tip-toes and whispered in his ear,
" I enjoyed the fight. Maybe we could do this again?" then you turned and started to walk away. Before you had reached the edge of the clearing you felt a breeze.
"Most definitely Suki." Ibiki whispered in your ear. He let out a breath that tickled the back of your neck. And just like that you two were connected.
