-Bridie's POV-

"Bridie, don't forget the Irwin's are coming over soon for dinner," my mom yelled from downstairs.

Shit I forgot. I ran down the spiral stairs still in my pajamas. My dirty blonde hair still in a messy bun. "What time are they coming?" I asked.

My mom checked the clock. "They will be here 5:30 so in about 30 minutes."

I was about to tell my mom she should've told me earlier but I knew we would just end up fighting, and that meant less time getting ready.

My mom was having Anne, someone who just started working with her, and her family over for dinner tonight. According to my mom Anne had three kids. A boy by the name of Ashton, who was about my age; and two younger kids named Harry and Lauren. That was the only thing my mom had told me.

My family was a lot like theirs in a way. Single mom, older child, and two younger kids. Which I guess is the reason why my mom wanted them to come.

It didn't take me too long to get ready because it wasn't like we were going somewhere, but I still had to help Josie and Izzy get ready.

Of course they weren't cooperative since they were 7 years old. However I did manage to get them changed into nicer clothes.

I sat the twins down at the dinner table and then helped my mom set the table.

As soon as I sat down there was a knock on the door. My mom told me to open it.

I did as she told, and greeted the lady which had to be Anne.

Behind her was a tall boy with hazel eyes and curly, dirty blonde hair. He had on a band tee and a tom of bracelets. He had to be the one my age named Ashton. On one side of him he was holding the hand of what must me his little brother Harry. On the opposite side he was holding his, what had to be, little sister, Lauren's hand.

"Hi I'm Ashton," he said quietly with a small smile. I couldn't help but notice Ashton's dimples.

"Hi I'm Bridie," I said awkwardly, not really knowing what to say.

Thankfully my mom came over and started talking to them.

I sat down next to my sisters at the table and took out my phone. Whenever something was awkward I went on my phone. I was scrolling through my twitter timeline when my mom came over and snatched my phone. Automatically I stood up and demanded it back.

"I don't want you on it while we have company," she said quiet enough that Anne or her kids couldn't hear.

I gave her a dirty look and sat down. I noticed Ashton had a slight smirk on his face.

I was sort of embarrassed by my out burst that I began to turn a little red.

Ashton found that even funnier and laughed real quietly.

I looked away trying to ignore him and not laugh, or turn more red.

Dinner consisted of Anne and my mom talking back and forth. Once we were all finished eating my mom suggested us "kids" go outside.

My mom treats me like I'm the same age as my sisters even though I'm 17.

We all got up and went through the back door outside. I sat down on the back porch step. I was joined by Ashton shortly after.

Josie, Izzy, Harry, and Lauren all ran to play on the small wooden swing set.

It was awkward sitting next to Ashton because neither of us sad anything. I really wished I had my phone with me.

"So you're a senior too?" Ashton asked breaking the silence.

"Yeah," I replied, I didn't know what else to say and to be honest I wasn't very good with having conversations with people I just met.

"Is school fun there?" Ashton asked me.

"As fun as school can be," I said which made him smile.

"Is there any bands?"

"Yeah, two of them," I answered.

"Oh cool," Ashton replied.

"Do you like, like to sing?" I asked him.

"Eh sort of," he replied. "I play the drums mostly."

"Really? I think both bands could use a drummer," I told him.

"Ashton come play with us," his little sister whined running up to him and pulling his hand.

One of my sisters, Josie, ran up too. "Bridie come play."

Ashton and I both got up to go play with them.

"Do you have a soccer ball?" Harry asked me excitedly.

He looked just like Ashton, you could definitely tell they were brothers.

"I'll go see," I told him walking over to the shed. Sure enough I found a soccer ball.

"Let's play soccer!" Izzy yelled.

"Eh I don't know..." I said, not sure that I wanted to run around.

"Please," Josie begged.

I was about to protest but then Harry started chanting "soccer, soccer" and all the other kids replied. Even Ashton joined.

I looked over at Ashton and rolled my eyes. "Fine," I said.

Even though I play soccer for the school, I haven't even touched the soccer ball since the end of the season last year.

We played the Irwin's against my family. The Irwin's ended up winning by one due to Ashton's speed and Izzy quitting.

"Do you play soccer?" Ashton asked as we walked to the porch.

"Yeah, but I only play it during soccer season."

"You should play more often, maybe we could practice together," he suggested as we walked inside.

"Yeah maybe," I said smiling.

Ashton and I walked into the kitchen to find our moms holding glasses of wine unsteadily. "Are you drunk mom?" I asked her.

"No no no," she said standing up and nearly falling over.

Ashton's mom Anne laughed at her and spilled her drink on the floor.

"Oh god," I muttered.

"Um mom I think it's time for us to go home now," Ashton told his mom taking the drink out of her hand.

"But I'm having fuuuunnn," she replied.

"Mom come on," he said motioning her to follow him.

"I don't have to," she said giggling.

"Let her stay," my mom begged dropping on her knees.

They were acting like little kids.

"We have to put Harry and Lauren to sleep, we have school tomorrow," Ashton told her grabbing her arm and trying to pull her.

"They can stay here," she said pulling away from him.

"Anne can stay the night" my mom butted in.

I looked at Ashton, we both didn't really know what to do.

"How about you take Lauren and Harry home and stay with them and your mom can stay the night here?" I suggested, trying to figure out something.

"I don't think that's a good idea, making you deal with 4 kids," he said, meaning the other two as our moms. "We all will just stay the night here and get up early to go back home and get ready.

"Okay," I said. "But let's hide the wine before we do anything else.
