The Rivalry

I awoke to the sound of my alarm, reminding me that if I wanted to use the bathroom at all today I had to get up now. Grabbing my shower stuff from my desk I quietly tiptoed out of my room and down the hall to the bathroom. I had just locked the door when I heard two other doors open and running feet headed my way. Both my brothers reached for the door knob and grumbled when they realized that they could not get in. Laughing to myself I started the water for my shower and hopped in.

Living in a house with two brothers, one older and one younger, and only have one bathroom it becomes a challenge to see who can make it there first. I finish with my shower, change into the clothes I picked out for school and hurriedly left the bathroom before I could be trampled.

My brother Mike, who is the oldest, beat Matt by a few footsteps and then proceeded to taunt Matt from behind the locked door. I rolled my eyes as I ran down the stairs, the smell of french toast calling to me.

I entered the kitchen to find my mother standing over the oven frying french toast in a pan. "Good morning," she calls to me as I sit at my spot at our kitchen island. She slides a plate over to me where I then cover the french toast in butter and syrup. Mike soon joins me at the island and we hear the bathroom door slam shut. After about 10 minutes we hear Matt scream and Mike starts chuckling beside me.

"What did you do this time Mike?" My mother glances at him before returning her attention to the french toast.

Stomping down the stairs a very angry Matt tries to lung for a very amused Mike. Catching a glimpse of my younger brother I see that his hair has turned green. Boy am I glad the food dye didn't end up in my shampoo bottle. My brothers ran around the island Mike laughing his head off and Matt trying to grab him. Mom then stands in their way with two plates, one for her and Matt, and the boys then screech to a stop so that they do not knock over our mother.

"I'll buy you new shampoo while I am doing the grocery shopping. Now both of you get yourself ready for school because if you are late for school again then there is a week worth of yard work that I can find for you." My mother smiles at her sons and then proceeds to sit down and eat her breakfast. I laugh as my brothers struggle around getting their things ready for school as I grab my backpack from the hook and head out the door.

As I swing the door closed behind me I see movement from across the street. Kyle King was also walking out of his front door towards the bus stop, ugh. The King family and my family have never gotten along since I was five years old. The whole family is full of nothing but liars and cheaters who are willing to step on anyone to get to the top. I reached the bus stop and Kyle crossed the street to where I was. I ignored him as I texted my best friend Kayla waiting for the bus and my brothers to get to the stop. Kyle's brothers Jared and Riley showed up first laughing as they talked about the upcoming football game that they and my bothers were both in tonight. Finally I could see the bus turn the corner and head in our direction as the sound of my front door was slammed open, Mike and Matt racing to get here before the bus arrived. Getting there just in the nick of time the six of us boarded the bus and went to sit in our respective seats.

Kayla waved at me as I walked down the aisle and took my seat next to her. As soon as the bus started moving she began talking about her favourite subject: Kyle King. I let her blab on and on knowing that Kayla has liked Kyle since grade school, even though I hate his guts. She kept talking until we reached the school and headed to our first class, English.

"So are you excited to go on that school field trip to Kings Gamer today?" Kayla asked

"Shoot, I completely forgot."

So this story came from a dream of mine, which is why I started writing it in the first place. My first copy of this story disappeared so I decided to rewrite from as much as I could remember. Had to change some things due to it being 5+ years since I had the dream and the dream was never completed. Hope you enjoy it
