Wilson leaned on a tree, hoping to get some rest from chopping trees and capturing his dinner. He kept a close eye on his surroundings, to be aware if something try's to attack him. Wilson tried to keep his grip on his axe tight, still looking around to see if anything was watching him. After looking at his surroundings, he concluded that there were not any creatures to attack him. He released his grip from his axe, and closed his eyes. He finally could relax. He put his hands through his hair, feeling the sweat wetting his hair. He was so tired from a day of chopping down trees and fighting anything that got in his way of getting food. He felt the cold wind of winter, and rubbed his arm to try to get warm. But as soon as Wilson had calmed down, he heard something. He jumped up, and held his axe up in the air.
"I-Is anyone there? Come out!"
Wilson looked around, his hands shaking in terror of what may be there. He looked around, and saw a bush move. He pointed his axe strait at the bush, hoping that whatever was is there would see it and be intimidated. But the bush moved again.
"come out!"
Wilson said, fear in his voice.
He was surprised when the thing that was hiding came out of the bush.
It was a thin, small, grey, wolf like creature with bat ears and sharp teeth.
It looked afraid, and starved.
Wilson held his axe up high, still trying to intimidate the creature.
"G-Get away! I'm gonna do something bad if you don't!"
The creature looked up at him with sad eyes, and whined almost like it was begging for him to not kill it. Wilson looked at the creature, and he felt a little bad for it. It looked like if i could speck, it would be crying for mercy.
Wilson lowered his axe down to his side and looked at the creature with kind eyes. He decided he wouldn't kill the creature, and if he did, he would feel to bad for killing the nice thing. He didn't know why though, he had killed many nice things before, so why did he feel bad now? He keeled down to the small creature, and slowly pet its ears. The fear on the creatures face turned into a smile. It rubbed itself against Wilson's hand, and began to rub itself along his legs as well. Wilson smiled, and pet the creature more. Feeling its soft skin, and also feeling its bones through the soft fur, due to the animal being starved. Wilson realized that this animal was starved, and noticed it was incredibly cold. He felt even more bad for the creature, and thought about if he should take care of it. He looked at it again, and observed its fluffy ears, and thin face. Wilson felt that he had to help it, no matter what. He didn't want this creature to die miserably. He took off his vest, and picked up the small creature. He wrapped it in his vest, and held it in his arms. It was a bit confused, but then it snuggled up in the vest, and closed its eyes. Wilson smiled at the it's happiness. Wilson held the creature closer to him, and began to walk back to his camp.
Wilson had reached his camp, and he walked next to his tent. He went inside and set the creature on the blankets that laid on the ground. He covered the small creature with the blankets and then walked to the campfire next to the tent. He sat next to the fire, collecting the warmth from it. He thought about what he just did. What if that creature would hurt him? I mean, it did have sharp teeth... But it couldn't hurt him, as long as he gained a trust with the creature. As far as he knew, that would work. Suddenly he heard something from the tent, and then he saw the creature run from the tent to him. He jumped up, and almost tried to run away, but the creature stopped him, in jumped on his lap, and held on tightly to his legs. Wilson realized the creature did not want to hurt him, but to get affection from him. It must of gotten scared or something, and needed comforting. Wilson calmed down, and began to pet the creature. He picked up the creature in his arms and held it up so he could look the creature in the eye.
"You know, if i'm gonna take care of you, i'm gonna have to name you.."
The creature nodded and put its paws in the air. It barked a bit, and then licked its mouth.
"Okay.. how about Whiskers?"
It nodded its head.
"Alright, Whiskers it is!"
Wilson looked at the creature up and down.
"oh. Your a male. I thought you were a girl!"
Wilson laughed a bit, and pet Whiskers, but Whiskers wasn't that happy. Wilson pet Whiskers and put him back down onto his lap. Whiskers was content, and he wagged his tail. Wilson began to pet him, and then set him down.
"Stay here, i'm gonna get you some food."
Whiskers looked ecstatic, and sat down and licked his lips. Wilson walked into the tent and grabbed a small cloth bag full of meat. He then took two dead rabbits and a long stick and walked back to the campfire. He gave one of the dead rabbits to Whiskers and then he put the other one on the stick. Wilson tried to rip the skin off the rabbit, and got around half of it off. He then ripped off a few parts of the dead animal and put it on the stick and began to cook it over the fire. Whiskers began to rip apart the rabbit, eating away at the fat and sucking up the blood that came from it. He ate at the organs and all the other stuff.
After a while of cooking the rabbit, it was fully cooked. Wilson took the rabbit off the fire and took it off the stick. He then started eating at the meat, and finally had his meal for the night. Whiskers jumped on top of Wilson's lap and got comfortable.
Wilson looked at Whiskers and he suddenly felt that he had something to keep his sanity.
A friend.
