Hey! It's Jay Again. So you decided to keep reading my story? Well, lucky for you this story keeps getting better and better. So where did I leave off again? Oh yeah! I left off on my first day as a Freshman in High School. So as I was saying...
"This is going to be an interesting experience." I say to myself.
I walk into my assigned homeroom, the room is empty besides one person and the teacher.
"Hey Jay! Jay! Over here Jay!" Yells Connor from across the room.
Connor sits in the back corner of the room, alone. He motions for me to come over. I try to play it off like I didn't hear him, but that would be impossible considering he was yelling.
I sigh. I walk over to the desk next to him and sit down.
"Jay, I can't believe were in the same homeroom!" He says.
"Yeah dude, its gonna be a great year!" I respond trying to sound thrilled.
As a few minutes went by, more and more students flooded into the classroom. Once everyone had taken their seats, the teacher began to speak.
"Hello everyone! I'm Mrs. Worthings. I'll be your homeroom teacher this year. Let me take attendance, if I can find the sheet of course, then we will go over a few drills."
She walks behind her desk and moves around some papers that were laid out.
"Aha!" She holds a paper I assumed was the attendance sheet. "Here it is!" She adds.
She starts calling out the names. About five or so minutes pass and she just finished the last names that start with "V". Theres only two "W" last names in the class and they are me, and some other kid named Tommy.
She continues with the attendance.
"Tommy Warren?" She looks around.
"Present!" He replies from the middle of the room.
She looks at him, nods, then checks his name off.
"Danny young? Is he here?" She asks.
A kid in the back takes out his ear buds and raises his hand.
"Im here!" He says
She again nods and checks him off.
"Did I miss anyone?" Mrs. Worthings looks up from the paper.
"You missed me, I wasn't called." I say.
"Name?" She clicks her pen, ready to write.
"Im Jay Wilbur."
She writes my name down. This happens every year.
We went over the three drills; Fire, Lockdown, and Rogue attack drill. That took about 30 minutes, half of which consisted of shushing and sitting under desks.
After a few more hours, school was over. It was a half day, thankfully.
I got on my bus and sat next to Connor. I knew if I didn't he would keep motioning for me to come over. He was eating a sandwich his mom packed him.
We talked the whole bus ride home, we got to know each other better. This was one of the last normal conversations I had before the video.
The bus stops and we all get out. Right before I start walking home, Sara stops me.
"Hey Jay! Are you going to the opening of the new sports field later today?" Sara smiles, waiting for a reply.
"I hear the whole town is going to be there."
This was my moment to hang out with my dream girl, my moment to shine. Maybe not shine, that's an over exaggeration. But definitely time to get to know her better.
"I'll be there."
We say our goodbyes and head home. I walk down the street for a few minutes until I'm stopped by the sound of screaming that is silenced by a gunshot.
A few houses away I spotted three police cars and a SWAT Truck. A body is pulled out of the house after a young kid is escorted out. The young kid keeps squirming in her restraints. I knew what was happening. This is what happens to Rogues who try to live a normal life. They get brought to a containment facility, where they are usually killed. I'm lucky that I'm protected, or I'd suffer the same fate as them.
As I walk away I hear another gunshot, and another, and another. I don't turn around. I keep walking. It's better this way.
