It's been 3 weeks since Sebastian joined the church. Since that day at the stairs Sebastian didn't bully Levi, every time he saw him get bullied Sebastian would come for his aid. Just last week, Sebastian's old buddies were beating up Levi. Sebastian had gotten on the way and took them both down. Levi had never been so glad to see him. Sometimes Levi would even feel like Sebastian adulates him. Levi brushed his fingers against the bleachers wood. Feeling the asperity of the red wood. He looked up where his father stood at the altar. “First Corinthians, chapter 6, verses 9 and 10. It talks about the things that prevent people from entering the kingdom of God. It talks about all kinds of immoral behavior. But right in the midst of that passage, fight in the middle of that verse it says “and those who are homosexuals”. There was a pause.
“That's not ambiguous. Let me be perfectly clear, you cannot abide the gospel and be okay with homosexuality.” Levi's father stepped away from his stand and walked around the altar. “You cannot have faith in god and be okay with homosexuality. You cannot call yourself a Christian and be okay with homosexuality!” Everyone nodded in agreement and said Amen. Levi rolled his eyes and looked behind at the crowd. His green gleaming eyes found Sebastian staring at him. Levi quickly looked away and turned his attention back at his father. He felt his mother smack his arm to pay attention. “Yes, mother” Levi told his mom and took a deep breath. He quickly looked back to see Sebastian getting scold by his mother to pay attention. He chuckled and looked at his father, a smile on his lips.
Through the rest of the mass Levi couldn't think straight. He didn't even pay attention. He could only think of that day he saw Sebastian cry. He chewed on his bottom lip and looked down. He fixed his red tie and looked up at his father, he tried to pay attention but Sebastian was on his mind.
With an oblivious smile Levi stood up and like everyone else they exited the church to the front yard for the barbecue. Levi followed, his feet making small tapping sounds on the wood floor. He felt a hand quickly brush against his. He looked up to find Sebastian looking at him. His eyes flickered with excitement like a flame. “Tag..you're it!” Sebastian ran out almost knocking down a toddler. Levi scoffed and chased after him. He followed him into the back of the church. Sebastian was now nowhere to be seen. Levi looked down. He sighed and turned at the sound of leaves crunching behind him. Sebastian knocked him down and fell with him, they both laughed and stared into each others eyes. Levi bit down on his bottom lip. His heart pounding hard against his chest.
He took a small deep breath as he felt Sebastian's lips on his, soft and warm. He lifted his hands and pressed them against Sebastian's chest, he could feel Sebastian's heart beat against his palm. Levi felt his cheeks get warm, a small gasp leaving his chest as he felt Sebastian's tongue part his lips and enter his mouth, the taste of apple still lingered on his tongue. The moment their tongues touched the kiss was broken like a seal. They both pushed away from each other and covered their mouths. Sebastian looked away and rubbed his head laughing nervously. Not so long after Levi joined.
Levi got up and went to Sebastian. He sat down next to him and grabbed his hand. His hand small compared to Sebastian's. “And here I thought you were intractable” Levi whispered at Sebastian, gaining an odd expression. Sebastian laughed and shook his head. He shrugged his head and smiled. “I..I was thinking about the first time I saw you..that book you were reading about hybrids? Was it hybrids? And....well I made fun cause you were crying..” Levi nodded and smiled at the memory. “I was crying because they carnage the offsprings..just cause they were hybrids. Cause..they were differentiated by the normal offsprings” Levi explained himself. He chuckled at the reason. Sebastian caressed his cheek and got up. He held his hand out once agan for Levi to take and he did so. Levi stood up and followed him, he stopped as he noticed where Sebastian was heading. He tried to walk back.
“N..No...Sebastian...we can't” Levi started to panic but Sebastian grabbed him and pulled him close looking at him, his eyes full of determination. Levi nodded and walked behind Sebastian. He closed his eyes he started hearing the gasps and murmurs of the crowd. Sebastian gave his hand a reassuring squeeze. Levi slowly opened his eyes and looked up to find his father with the normal clique. He felt his world shatter away at his father's look. His mother broke into sobs and looked away as she held onto her husband. On the other side of the preacher Sebastian's mom just stared. No adjudication coming from her whatsoever. Instead there was a smile in her face, as if she always knew this day will come. Levi looked away and buried his face into Sebastian's shoulder. He couldn't take the look of disappointment on his father's face, or the sobs from his mother.
“I love him, and yes I am a man. Yes, he is a man. But it's love, the same way you love your wives or husbands. I don't care what you think of us. He has stolen my heart. He did reparations on my heart too. I once thought I wouldn't be able to care for anyone the day I lost my father..but...Levi, he managed to enter my heart. And I'm grateful for that…” Sebastian looked at everyone. Some where already shrugging it off, others quite. Others were just staring in disbelief but it didn't matter. Levi looked up and smiled through tears at his father and mother. “I was always a perfect son...let me have something I want. I always did what you guys want.” He looked at Sebastian and smiled. Levi felt Sebastian's hand shake. And with that he knew. They needed each other to get through this. He looked at his father. He could see the fury in his eyes, orbs that burned with fire. Hell fire.
