That is my foot. On a lab stool. I am on the ground. On the stage. It is being elevated. RICE. An acronym meaning Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevate. I have been doing all four of those things. You see, about a month ago now, I injured my foot. I bent it too far back, and it hurt like Hades. But I really didn't want to be injured during band camp, so I didn't see a doctor. Band camp started two weeks ago, on August 1. Well, on August 1 after practice, my foot was hurting so much I had to go see the doctor. Now I am on crutches. The doctor said that it is most likely a ruptured tendon, which will require surgery. I have an EMT friend who had a similar injury which required surgery, and asked him about how long he thought it would be until I was able to do ride alongs, and about how many patient contacts I would get on a shift. After doing some math, I realized that I will have to work harder than anyone to get my hours and patient contacts done for EMT. I'll have to take on multiple shifts a week, whereas most people do one a month, or even fewer. Wish me luck that I don't need surgery, and if I do, then wish me luck that I'll be able to heal fast enough to get all of my hours done.
