Erin’s POV:

We spent the last couple hours of our shift setting up the ballroom for a wedding that night. The theme was “Traveling the World Together”. When we were completely finished I went over to look at the picture display off to the side with pictures of the couple in different countries. They started out with one trip where they were separate, next were a lot together, and at the end it was just the two of them with an empty background and a quote by the groom, which I assume was from his proposal. It read, “I never know where I’m going next, but I do know that wherever it is I want you to be there.” I thought it was really sweet. I always love the proposal, because the guys always get so nervous. That was probably his only coherent sentence the whole speech.

“What are you smiling about,” Robert asked coming over to stand next to me.

“They look really happy,” I explained. He smiled and nodded. “Have you ever been to any of these places?”

“Let’s see,” he inspected each description and responded, “Yup, I’ve been to all of them.”

            “No way, all of them?”

“Yeah we travel a lot,” he paused and then quickly added “As in my family for vacation, and lately I’ve been traveling with my dad for business. How about you, have you been to any of them?”

“No,” I laughed, “I’ve never been outside the country, and I’ve just barely made it outside the state. I could never afford one of these trips.”

            “Do you wish you could?”

“I’d like to travel, but if I could afford it that would take all the fun away.”

            “What?”

“We have to check out, our shift is over,” I pointed to the clock, “Come on,” I turned away, knowing I had left him hanging. I just hoped he’d stay interested.

He followed, “Why would it take the fun away,” he questioned more specifically as we got into the employee elevator.

“If you’re constantly traveling then it’s just another trip. If you’ve never traveled, then it’s an experience you’ll never forget, and you may never get again. But there’s always hope,” I explained revealing more of my thoughts then I’d ever expected to give away to anyone, but he was such a good listener. It seemed like he actually cared about what I had to say.

He stayed silent in thought until the elevator stopped on the basement floor. “But then you’ll never know how beautiful the world is outside of here. There's so much to see, you’re missing out,” he explained as he swiped his card. We both put them away together.

“Oh really,” I questioned ready to prove him wrong. “After you’re done changing, meet me here. I want to show you something.” He squinted and smirked, but I could tell he was intrigued. Then he agreed still suspicious.

He was waiting for me. It was amazing how much quicker he could change out of work clothes then into them. I intertwined my hand with his as I walked by and started tugging him with me, without stopping. “Where are we going,” he questioned with little fight.

I hushed him, “It’s a secret,” I said in my non-serious voice. He nodded, jokingly pressing his lips together tightly. We continued walking in silence as I led him deeper into the areas of the basement that most employees had never seen. Eventually we made it down to the small wooden door I was looking for. To most people it probably seemed like a storage area, but I was always intrigued by the small emerald gemstone on the door. I just couldn’t believe there wasn’t something hiding behind it, so I crawled inside one day to see if I was right. He gave me a questioning “are you serious” look as I got down on my knees and unlatched the hook. “Trust me,” I assured him, “I promise I’m not messing with you.” He looked into my eyes to make sure, but then he kneeled down next to me. “Alright, it’s dark for a bit, but just head straight and follow me.”
