Hugo and I went to join the rest of our cousins who always got a compartment together at the beginning of the train ride.

As we opened the compartment door, the train slowly began to ebb away from the platform. We both ran up to the window waving at our parents as we passed them slowly. Once they were out of view and the platform wasn't visible behind us, we sat down opposite each other. Everybody else was chatting loudly and laughing. James was playing exploding snap with Fred, Albus and Rose were practising charms, Roxanne an Dominque were looking at the newest edition of Teen Witch Weekly and the rest were either reading or chatting.

I turned to Hugo and asked if we should explore a bit, after all we would be on this train for 6 hours so it wouldn't hurt to know where everything was. He agreed and we headed out to the left of the train. We walked past compartment after compartment, each one full of groups of friends discussing their summer holidays. The warmth and friendliness of the train was encouraging and my nerves were starting to calm down. I passed a compartment and hesitated for a minute before looking in and seeing a group of people I was very familiar with.

Lysander and Lorcan, the Scamander twins and their little sister Lottie were sitting reading the Quibbler. Their mother (who happened to be my godmother) was the editor of the magazine and had taken over when her father was unable to carry on. Next I spotted Brianna, Aine and Donal who was the oldest. They were the children of Seamus Finnigan who is a close friend of my mum and dad and finally Sally and George Longbottom, the son and daughter of my godfather Neville Longbottom. I knocked on the window and they all looked at once. Hugo and I waved and Sally opened the door.

"Come in you two!" She said and patted the seat next to her. I sat down and Hugo sat down next to Lysander.

"How was your summer Lily?" asked Lottie who was a first year like me.

"Great thanks Lottie, how about you? Didn't your family go skiing?" The boys looked up and smiled

"Yes we did, it was really fun" said Lysander and Lorcan nodded. "The only problem was the nargles kept pushing my skis down the hill when I took them off so it took me a while to get them back." I laughed awkwardly, dad always told me the stories of Luna and the nargles.

We stayed in the compartment talking to the group for about an hour before Hugo and I glanced at each other and we got up to leave.

"Oh before you go" Brianna chirped up in her light Irish accent "preferable houses?" She smiled and I tapped my chin whilst Hugo instantly said 'Griffindor'

"Anything but Hufflepuff" I chuckled and people joined in too. Everybody in the compartment was either a Griffindor or a Ravenclaw.

"We should find the lady with the trolley, I'm starving" Hugo said and I agreed, we headed back towards the way we came. Hugo was in front of me but soon he disappeared amongst the vast amount of people so I slowed down- deciding to take my time getting back to the compartment.

Just as I opened a door to cross over carriages, I bumped into someone taller than me.

"Well, if it isn't little Miss Potter" the sneering voice said and I looked up to see Scorpius Malfoy standing infront of me.

"Sorry Malfoy, you should watch where you're going in future" I said as I attempted to pass him out.

"Me? I think you'll find you were the one who bumped into me Potter." He laughed.

"Whatever" I muttered under my breath and I stepped to the side where there was a clear exit. He moved too seeing that I wanted to get past.

"Does little Potter want to go somewhere? Or shall we just keep standing here having this lovely little chat? We could always pop into my compartment- it's only two away" I looked beneath my eyebrows at him, trying to show I was not entertained by his snide comments but the cheeky grin had reappeared and this time I felt myself blush as he bit his lip.

"If I didn't know any better Miss Potter, I would say you're blushing right now. Does that mean you do want to join me in my compartment?" He lifted his arm up and leaned against the wall of the corridor, I looked to the floor and noticed his shiny black shoes. There was a buckle one side of them, they were awfully smart. He shifted so that his legs crossed and I looked up to his intense glare. I noticed his dark grey eyes with blue specs and that's when I clicked out of whatever state I was in. I cleared my throat and looked back to the floor again, side stepping to pass him out. I walked slowly past him but he didn't move so I carried on walking down the corridor, after about 10 steps I looked back and he had turned around and was standing looking at me

"Maybe another time, ey Potter?" He winked and turned as I hastily picked up speed, putting a stray strand of hair behind my ear. I felt flustered and something had stirred my stomach, was it Malfoy? It can't be, I haven't eaten in about 4 hours so concluded it must be that.

As I opened the door to the compartment Albus' head snapped up.

"Where have you been Lils'? Hugo got back about 15 minutes ago?" for some reason I didn't particularly feel like telling my protective older brother about the confrontation between Malfoy and myself so I sat down and lied about meeting a new friend who was looking rather sick in the corridor.

I remembered my hunger and put Malfoy to the back of my mind as Hugo handed me a pumpkin pasty. It wouldn't be too long until I would be stuffing my face at the feast.
