Five days left

You have five days until everything you know is destroyed.
Randy bolted upright and struggled to catch his breath. He was covered in sweat.. "I wonder what that was about," he said to his dog, Lucy. He looked over at his still-sleeping wife with eyes full of love. He would do anything for her.
Today started off like any other, he had his toast for breakfast, his ham and cheese sandwich packed for lunch, and he kissed his wife and daughter goodbye before heading to work. Randy worked at an office building making software for Dill, a multi-million dollar computer company. He parked outside the building and strolled in with his briefcase. He walked in and greeted his best friend Cameron. "Hey cam," Randy said. "How have you been?" "Not so good," Cameron answered as he gestured at the television that was in the lobby.

Randy shut off the TV, not able to look anymore. "It's not only that, but plagues are breaking out in Egypt, South Africa, and Germany." Cam continued. "I-is this the end?" Randy asked. There had been increasing amounts of natural disasters as well as nuclear strikes in the past decade. The world was not going to last much longer at this rate. "I don't know," Cameron answered. "It might b-" "GET TO WORK!" The two men hear as their supervisor sees them in the lobby. Randy and Cameron went down to their boring cubicles and worked through the day. When Randy got home, his wife was crying. "What's wrong Ashley?" He asked as he consoles her. "The world is ending Randy," she answered. "And we can't stop it, not even for Catherine," Randy was struck by the fact that if the world ends. He wont be able to save his daughter. He knew, then and there, that he had to stop the world from ending. He would stop it.
