Flame's POV
Rest. Finally. I slump down onto a rock, exhausted. The rock starts levitating. I spin around and glare at Bob, managing to fall off the rock, roll several feet down a hill, and end up flat on my back. He laughs, scales subtly shifting to a slightly lighter shade of purple. His scales change color based on his mood sometimes. They get lighter when he's happy, red when he's mad, and then he can control what color they are too.

"You are having way too much fun with your telekinesis. I'm pretty sure you should be staring at the sky thinking about what we do next." I say, rolling over so he doesn't look upside down.

"I'm hoping Rascal can avoid killing anyone for the moment, and I can plan and laugh at you at the same time. I'm a skilled multitasker." Bob says, smiling.

"Riiiggghhhhttttt. Sure you are." I say scrofula ply (lol skeptically I can't spell and auto correct was so helpful). I know he can't multitask any better than I can, and that's saying something. I'm pretty sure that multitasking is actually a physically impossible thing to do and that the only people that can multitask just have superpowers or are hacking life or something. Bob smiles again.

"Well, I don't exactly have anything better to do than come bug you with my amazing abilities, do I?"

He probably does have something better to do, but whatever. He can come make me jealous of his amazing abilities if he wants to. Seriously, he has way more fun than he should being who he is. The powers he has are awesome, and he understands that they are awesome and all the power he has does wonders for his ego. In the end though, he cares more about us than he does his powers.

I manage a massive eye roll. "Seriously, what are you doing here? Emerald and Thea and Rascal are over being social in the den. Why aren't you with them?"

"Because I want to see what you do when you're being antisocial. Turns out you flop onto magic rocks and the roll around on the floor." Bob responds, sending said 'magic rock' flying over my head.

"Right. Magic rocks are my main concern. Can't I sunbathe in peace?" I ask him. He shakes his head solemnly. I sigh. After living with him and Rascal all theses years, I can say I've acquired a skill for sighing.

The place we're staying for like 3 days is a small foresty area near a little creek. There's a rotting, hollowed out nursery log that we've decided to sleep in. It's sad to see how lush and thriving and alive everything is, like us snakes weren't really that important for keeping the natural balance of things. We are more important than you know, human. You may think you know everything, but you don't. We were the glue that kept Earth together, the species that slipped through the shadows killing invaders and helping natives. We were the elite warriors of Mother Nature.

Or so I like to think. I don't really know how things worked back then, before... This. I guess our species still is pretty important. If we die, than all of Earth is going down with us, thanks to the Hunters. The animals around us don't understand the danger they're in.

I know that we aren't immortal, that we will die at some point, but if the Hunters don't kill us, they can't destroy the world. They might without us to protect it, but they probably can't. It would be altogether better for Earth in general if we just killed ourselves and destroyed the risk of the Hunters taking our power, but we won't do that. Like every sane person out there, we want to live. That might make us selfish, but it's the truth.

"Hey? Flame? Hello, Earth-that-we-are-trying-to-save to Flame?" Bob says.

"Sorry, zoned out. Thinking about the inevitability of death and how if we were good people than we would just kill ourselves. You know, the usual." I say casually. Bob doesn't seem at all concerned by this. It does make sense. He just goes kinda quiet and nods.

"Come on." He urges me softly.
"Let's go back to the den and rest up."

Hi! Sorry for the extremely short filler chapter, kinda a bit stuck but I have the basic plot so I'm pretty sure I know where everything's going. I am in an evil mood right now though so everyone might die next chapter.
Just kidding!😜
Or am I????
As always, an even number of words is required to end this chapter. I'm thinking 800. So, I just need a few more words and then name...
