Joules smiled as she walked to the port, holding a small basket of bread rolls to sell to weary sailors. Her shirt and chaps were clean today, and her boots reached her thigh as she walked, whistling.
Joules reached the port in decent time, her curly blonde hair bouncing with every step. She began selling bread rolls, 1 silver coin apiece. A man walked up to her, and asked for a roll. She nodded and held one out, and then he spoke again "And why, miss Greywater, might I find you selling rolls instead of being on a ship?" Joules immediately changed her tone and pulled the man close, whispering in his ear. "Call me Greywater again and you'll find out just what I can do with the knife in my boot. I gave up that life long ago, scoundrel."
She pushed him back a foot, grimacing. "What are you here for anyway, pirate?" she asked, disgust tinting her otherwise calm voice.
The man grinned. "Soon you'll know. Tonight, at midnight in fact." He walked away, his request for bread forgotten, his message delivered. Joules sighed and looked to the sails in the sky.
In among the white sails there they stood, proud and high with the emblems she had been learning since birth.
Black sails.
The flagships of the pirate legion.
The wardens of the code.
It was time.
Her father was dead.
Now she was the last of her line;
Joules Greywater
