It was Hermione's second week at Hogwarts and she was rather annoyed by the fact that Harry Potter had lost two Gryffindor points during potions class. She kept trying her best to earn points since she wanted the house cup for their house. Hermione was doing well in her classes, having the first to be able to turn a match into a needle in Transfiguration class and all. She, however, had mixed feelings about potions class since the teacher was absolutely terrifying. Aside from that fact, Draco Malfoy and other Slytherin students shared potions class with Gryffindors, which did not calm her nerves at all.

But to make things even worse, Hermione had overheard Harry Potter and Ron Weasley talking about duelling Draco Malfoy and his friend at midnight. Hermione's eyes widened upon hearing this news. She had several reasons why she needed to stop Potter from duelling Malfoy. She was afraid that he would hurt Malfoy--well, not that she underestimated Draco's skill; but he's a Potter- his parents were well known wizards. Malfoy could get hurt. Secondly, it was at midnight; meaning that they were going to break rules, and have Gryffindor lose a lot of points again-- if they got caught.

Hermione kept warning them, but she was ignored. She felt furious and decided to leave them alone for awhile--except midnight. She stayed in the common room, sitting on a chair, a book in her lap while waiting for the two naughty boys to try and sneak out.

She finally heard them rushing down the stairs in the common room. Not noticing Hermione at all, the two boys headed for the portrait hole, but halted when they heard her voice." I cannot believe that you two are actually going to do this."

The two boys turned their heels to face her, quite annoyed." You!" said Ron." Go back to bed!"

Hermione snapped," I could easily tell your brother you know. Percy, he's a prefect- he could stop you two."

Harry, deeply irritated, turned his heels and called Ron. Nonetheless, Hermione didn't give up and followed them until outside of the portrait hole, blabbering about losing Gryffindor points again-- holding back half of the reason for stopping them. Hermione eventually gave up, but when she turned to return into the Gryffindor common room, the Fat Lady was not in her portrait to give Hermione access.

She ended up having to go with the two boys, and discovering that Draco Malfoy just called a bluff to get them in trouble. Not only that, the two boys made Hermione have the most troublesome night that included breaking a bunch of rules and discovering a three headed beast in the third floor corridor on the right-hand side-- which Dumbledore clearly stated is out of bounds to students.

Two months had passed in what feels like a blink of an eye for Hermione. She did well in her classes, studying hard for each one. Her favorite place was, no doubt, the library; where she enjoyed the peaceful sounds of turning pages as she read piles of books that fed her knowledge.

It was no wonder that she was the first to successfully levitate a feather in Charms class, gaining a praise from Professor Flitwick. Hermione was trying to prove something to Ron when she levitated the feather with her wand, feeling quite proud of herself. She was determined that she could do it. Perhaps that's why she got to make the feather float first.

Ron was, of course, irked by Hermione; saying things that aren't that nice behind her back." It's leviOsa, not leviosA," he mocked Hermione's high pitched voice." No wonder she's got no friends!" He complained to Harry.

Hermione frowned, hearing his last sentence. Tears welled in her eyes as she walked past the boys, heading straight to the girls bathroom near the dungeons. Hermione hurried into a cubicle, refusing to let anyone see her cry. She stayed there, her tears flowing down her cheeks for hours. It was true, she had no friends. Draco used to be her friend, but even he turned cold towards her. Maybe it was because of her blood. She was a mudblood; she knew that. For once, she wished that she was either a pure blood or half blood, because maybe, just maybe, she would have some friends... Maybe Draco would still be one of her friends.

Unfortunately, she was nothing but a muggle born wizard, always looked down by some half-bloods or purebloods.

Hermione eventually came out of the bathroom stall a few hours later, wiping the dry tears from her eyes. It smelled awful when she came out. And no, it did not smell like disgusting poo or pee; instead, it smelled like clothes that haven't been washed in years,  and... Okay, maybe slightly like disgusting pee and poo.

Hermione traced the smell, and she let out a shrill scream when she saw an enormous troll a few feet away from her. She hurriedly tried to run away from it, hiding beneath the sink. Suddenly, two familiar boys bursted through the doors, trying to help her. They were obviously clueless of what to do, throwing random debris at the troll and shouting at it. Still, it did a good job of distracting the troll.

Harry tried pulling Hermione towards the door, but she stayed frozen, absolutely petrified by the troll before them. Harry ended up jumping on the troll, wrestling his head, whilst Ron casted a successful levitation charm, hitting the troll with its own bat. The troll fell unto the ground, unconscious.

"Is it dead?" Hermione asked as she hesitantly walked towards the two boys, still watching the troll with fearful eyes.

"I doubt it," Harry said." It's just unconscious."

The three wheeled there heels around when they heard footsteps coming towards them. They turned to see three professors bursting through the doors. The three students gazed at them with wide eyes as Professor McGonagall angrily glared at them. Hermione ended up lying to the Professor, saving the two boys from punishment. Professor McGonagall decided to take five points from Gryffindor, but still rewarded Potter and Weasley five points each. The three were ordered to go back to their dorms at once; the trio gladly obeying.

On their way back to the Gryffindor common room, Ron grumbled how they shouldn've gotten more than ten points.

Harry interjected."Five points you mean, since she took five from Hermione."

Ron mumbled about how it was good of hermione to get them out of trouble." Mind you, we did save her."

"Mind you, she wouldn't have needed saving if you had not insulted her... And if we did not end up accidentally locking her in with the troll," Harry reminded Ron, but looked apologetically at Hermione, who in return smiled at him slightly.

"What are friends for?" Ron glanced at Hermione mischievously.

Hermione grinned at his words. In that night, she finally got the friends that she had hoped and longed for... Although they were absolute idiots, Hermione was thankful that she had friends like them. It was where their adventures began.
