Dan

We were dancing. Everything was alright. I kept swaying her back and forth. I twirled her out and her hand slipped out of mine, sending her spinning into the road. Maybe we shouldn't have been doing this right next to the road...

I saw headlights. I began to scream. Then, I heard tires screeching. But the car didn't stop fast enough. I saw her being thrown back, then everything went dark for me.

My eyes shot open. I tried telling myself it was just a dream, but deep down, I knew it had actually happened. Maybe not tonight, but it felt like it did.

I felt myself beginning to panic and found myself reaching for my phone.

3:04 am... god, I was doing so good... I thought to myself. The nightmares had stopped for a week.

I couldn't fall back asleep, so I found myself dialing Phil's number, hoping to talk until I calmed down.

I entered his number in, hearing the long tones signaling his phone was ringing, when it goes to voicemail. I don't blame him for not answering, it's really late anyways. I set my phone down, resting my eyes, and finally falling asleep.

My eyes flutter open the next morning with my alarm, signaling it was time to get ready for school. I dragged myself up and out of bed, stumbling to my bathroom as I got little sleep last night. I walk in, splashing some cold water on my face to wake me up a little more. I then straighten my hair since it curls when I sleep.

I walk back into my room, grabbing an outfit for the day, which was just some black skinny jeans, another band shirt, and some dark shoes. I go downstairs and grab an apple, and walking out the door, earbuds in and music turned up.

I'm halfway to school when I feel someone brush up against me. He pulls one of my earbuds out.

"Whatchya listening to, Dan?" Phil asks me, still holding the earbud he pulled out. I'm about to tell him, but I guess my music was a little loud because he could tell himself.

"Pierce the Veil, nice choice," he replies, putting the earbud in his own ear so he can listen too. I never really saw him as the "screamo music" type, but hey, whatever works works.
We walked silently, just listening to the Collide With the Sky album for a while, just letting the music sink in. Suddenly, Hold on Till May started playing. Remembering how triggering that song is to me, I skipped it as quickly as I could. Phil gave me a strange look, but I ignored it. I just asked for my earbud back so I could put it away as we walked into the gates of the school.
