She felt her ears begin to roast. There was a cold, wet sweat on the back of her neck. Her heart was in her throat, no words would ever be able to pass through. Her eyes quickly shifted to stare at the tile floor. Had someone asked her something?? There was nothing she could do now, she would have to ride out the attack.
Her heart dropped from her throat and started pounding in her chest way too quickly. Her lungs felt like they had shut down because she could no longer breathe. Clammy, trembling hands reached to grab something, incase her buckling knees failed her. She could no longer focus, so she shut her eyes tightly. If she could just get a breath, get away, maybe this would pass. She could already hear a voice say, "Are you all right?"
As soon as the sound hit her ears, her legs took off running. She didn't know where they would take her, but in the moment, she trusted them fully. She was far away before she knew it, hidden behind a tall stack of boxes. Crunched down, tears streamed down her face, she felt her heart begin to beat slower. She was covered in a sticky sweat but at least her lungs were working properly. Slowly, she remembered where she was....the supermarket??! Really?! Is it happening again??!
He watched her walk hurriedly down the sidewalk. She looked shook up. She always seemed to have that crazed look about her lately. He knew why, he knew her better than she knew herself. He had planned to just check on her again tonight, but he didn't want to resist the urge to let himself be known.
He drove slowly, not taking his eyes off her, burning into the back of her head. His devilish smile faded when she turned abrubtly down a driveway, as if she could feel his glare. He gunned the gas pedal and tried to figure out where she was going, without being seen by anyone before he could see them.
He was angry again. It didn't take much for him to feel like he couldn't control his fists. One connected with the steering wheel and his grin returned with the sharp pain in his knuckles. He shoved his foot on the gas again. "You've got this shit, Dan" he told himself aloud followed by an enthusiatic cackle, "This is YOUR time, man."
He fumbled around under the seat of his black '82 Corvette for his bottle of Jack Daniel's, "Come to Daddy", he mumbled as he tilted the pint up for one long gulp.
