Goodbyes are never really goodbyes.

Rose POV

I didn't realize I was pressed against Jacobs body until I felt his fingers tighten around my shoulders. When I looked up to see his face, I was surprised to see how angry he was.

"Come on, let's get you taken cared of" Jacob says.

"Excuse me," I turned around to face an officer with a notepad in his hand.
"Are you the man who called?"He asks Jacob. Jacob briefly nods his head half irritated. I could tell he was still mad for being tackled down by one of the officers.

"What's your name sir?"

"Jacob Martin."

"And you ma'am?" He points at me.

" Ro-Rose Pierce..."

The officer looked me over before continuing on. " Ms Pierce, I need you to come with me so we can take care of your arm." He gestures for me to follow him. I nod my head following behind as he guides us to an ambulance truck.

I sat on the tip of the truck, and a lady approached me with medical equipment's. Jacob stood against the door of the ambulance with a worried look on his face. I try to force a smile reassuring him that I was fine, of which he doesn't return.
"Is this you guy's house?" The officer asked looking at Jacob and I.

"No, it's...it's just mine." I say faintly.

The woman pressed something cold on my arm and I jumped back startled.
I gasped at the stinging feeling but kept my attention on the officer. Jacob moved closer to me, gently placing his hand on mine. I focused my eyes on something else to distract myself when I saw the lady pull out a large needle.

"Everything's going to be okay" Jacob tells me.

"Ms Pierce, I'm going to need you to come with me to the police station so we can report this. We'll figure this whole mess up over there." The man ignored my stares and I could tell that, that was all I was going to get until I go to the station.

I nod my head in response not wanting to say my thoughts out loud. Figure it out? What's that going to do?! That's not going to get my house back! That doesn't explain what the heck just happened! My stuff! My things?

Where am I going to live?

That last part brought tears in my eyes and I had to swallow hard to make them go away. I was trying so hard to stay calm but inside I was a total mess.
My house just got destroyed by three drunk guys who thought it'd be funny to play with a bulldozer.

I put up with all that noise in the backyard while they were building that new house because the construction somehow helped quite down those stupid college kids partying all night by the neighborhood!! If that bulldozer wasn't there, my house would have been fine!! I can't believe this is happening to me!

"I'll come with you." Jacob spoke up sensing my panic.
I forced another smile on my face, shaking my head.
As much as I would love his company, I really didn't want to trouble him anymore than I already have. He has to get ready for his flight to New York and I can't be the reason why he misses that flight.

"No...it's fine...you should get home, you've got a flight tomorrow remember. I'll be fine." I tell him.

"Who gives a damn about my flight. Where are you going to stay?" He frowns.

"I give a damn!" I point out. "And so do you. I'll be fine, really. I'll figure something out." I smile at him, this time it wasn't forced.

"But―"

"You're not missing your flight" I put as much effort on my voice as I could muster.

"You're finished." The lady taking care of my arm spoke breaking our argument.

I looked down at my stitched arm quite happy with myself. It wasn't as painful as I thought it would be, but it was still painful.
I smiled at the lady thanking her.

"Make sure not to get it wet, or else you'll have to get it redone and it won't be like the first time." She tells me before taking her leave. I thanked her one more time and then turned my attention back to Jacob who was frowning at me.

"Rose―"Jacob starts to say but I cut him off.

"I'll be fine." I assure him.

He sighs giving in and reached for me. He carefully wraps his arms around me, stepping back when I flinched.

I don't stop myself when I clung onto him again for another tight hug. His arms immediately wrap around me this time twice as careful. I breath in his scent for the last time satisfying myself. I'm going to miss him. I've never been so close with anyone the way I am with him.

"I'll miss you too." He whispers in my ear. "You sure you don't want me to go with you to the station?"

I wanted to say yes. I didn't want to be alone. I wanted him to stay with me. I pulled away from him hesitantly sighing to myself. Why did I have to be so dependent on him?
"No, I told you I'll be fine." I lie convincingly. He nods his head ones.

"I'll call you when I get there." He smiles and with that, I watch him walk away before the officer took me to the police station.
