When we got to Mom's house, I was ranting ideas we could do. Nails, hair, Netflix, anything she wanted. She just laughed at me while I spurted out ideas. It wasn't until her phone beeped, indicating she had a call that I realized that I was so stupid to think my mom would actually spend time with me.
"I'm sorry, honey," she whispered, taking the call.
About five minutes later, she returned, an apologetic look on her face. "I just got called out to Beaumont."
I took a deep breath. "Right."
"I should be back soon," she assured me.
I nodded.
As she walked out, I sat on the couch and flipped on the TV. I put it on The Vow and went to make some popcorn. My phone buzzed and answered it. "Hello?"
"Hey, Rachel," Holden's voice said. "Where are you?"
I sighed. "At my mom's."
"I thought you were leaving tomorrow," he said.
"Me too, but she showed up early," I sighed.
"Can I come see you?" He asked.
"I don't think so. You're far away," I said.
"Only a couple hours," he said.
"I'll see you at the end of summer," I said.
"Okay, fine. I love you," he said.
"Love you too," I smiled and hung up.
Holden and I had been dating for three months now and I was deeply in love with him. He was kind, caring, and there for me. I'd written a few songs for him, but never had the guts to play them for him. I took my bowl of popcorn and sat on the couch and watched as Channing Tatum tried to get Rachel McAdam's back. And succeeded, obviously.
After five more movies, Mom waltzed in the door. "Hey, honey."
"Hey, Mom," I went up to hug her.
"I'm sorry I got in so late--"
"It's fine. I've been watching movies all day," I shrugged.
"Wanna go out to dinner?" She offered.
I nodded. "Sure."
"Go get ready," she urged.
I went to my room I had here and applied my makeup and got on some nice clothes. I brushed my hair and fixed it, so it was wavy. Mom was waiting in the truck for me and I got in the passenger seat.
"Where do you wanna go?" She asked.
"I dunno, where do you wanna go?" I smirked.
"Wanna go to Saltgrass?" She asked.
"Yeah, sure," I said.
We drove and went in. I got a couple stares from older men and I clung to my mom's arm. The waitress seated us at a table and took out drink orders. Mom and I got sweet tea.
"So I was thinking we could go shopping tomorrow, if I don't get another callout?" She asked.
"Of course. You know me, I love shopping," I said.
"Sounds good then," she said.
The waitress came back with our teas and we ordered. When she left again to go get our food, Mom went to the bathroom. I sat and sipped at my tea and scanned my surroundings, because I knew those old men were staring at me, still.
"Excuse me," a man said. "I just love your hair," he said, feeling it and tried going down the back of my shirt.
"Get your hands off me," I yanked from him.
