a few minutes later, you pulled into a gas station, and i couldn't be happier — not that the problem was you. it was the growing tension between us. it was only a matter of time before everything would come spilling out and i wasn't ready for that.

i quickly jumped out as soon as you were parked, almost tripping over my feet in the process. "i'll grab us some snacks," i said, looking at the point just over your shoulder, not ready to meet your gaze just yet. you nodded your head before answering verbally, and i quickly walked away.

placing a hand over my chest, i breathed deeply, willing my heartbeat to slow down as i made my way inside the convenience store.

it was just one night. a few hours at most.

walking down the aisles, i grabbed a few snack and drinks, making sure to get a variety of things. when i reached the candy aisle, i slowed my steps, and came to a complete stop as my eyes found their way to a particular candy.
