Friend or Foe?

Skylar P.O.V.~

I stood in front of Lucy protectively before looking around. Lucy isn't a full dragon slayer so I guess she couldn't feel it but the other slayers slowly caught on and looked around. 

"What's going on?" Levy asked as Gajeel stood above her with his arms around her like a shield. 

"Everyone be quiet. Get back to the guild." Natsu yelled pointing to the guild with a serious face. 

Everyone but the slayers ran inside. I made Lucy go in for her own safety. We stood in a circle-ish shape and watched every movement. "This magic..." The others nodded and I turned to the left when I saw movement in some bushes in the forest surrounding us. "Show yourself!" I felt like an idiot when a squirrel came out and looked at us with his acorn. 

"Maybe it was nothing?" Wendy said easing up from her stance. I shook my head and ran to one of the trees before anyone else could react. My hair blew behind me as I ran and tackled the man who had watched us.

He let out a scream. "Please don't hurt me! I just heard my friend was back in town and I wanted to see..." I sat on the back of the black haired mage as he cried.

Natsu and the others looked pissed and confused at the sight of the crybaby Zeref. "Dude, you're still such a crybaby! Can't believe I mistook your magic for Achnologia's." 

He looked up at me and pouted saying something about me being a meanie before disappearing. 

"Please explain what that was about..." Laxus looked just as confused as everyone else.

I sighed before I started walking to the guild. "He helped raise me when I was abandoned by Jude. Lucy doesn't know that yet. Our mother found me when she "died" but up until then Zeref raised me. My magic prevents him from hurting me. But I don't want the others to know." I smiled sadly and we got to the guild hall that was dead silent. Natsu placed a hand on my shoulder in attempt to comfort me. 

We walked in the guild hall to see everyone looking at us confused. "False alarm, it was just a squirrel!" I laughed and the other slayers just kind of went along with it. 

Lucy ran up and hugged me pouting. "I'm sorry for making you fight Natsu!" I chuckled and messed up her hair before walking to the bar and getting a beer from Mira.

Mira smiled at me before leaning over the bar towards me as I drank my beer. "So Skylar, have a crush on anyone yet?" She said in a sing song voice as I choked on my drink and Lucy just laughed. 

"Bloody hell Mira?!" A British accent slipped out causing some people to look at me.

"Nice job Mira!" Lucy laughed pounding the bar. "She only switches accents when she gets really embarrassed or caught off guard!"

I glared at her under my bangs with a slight blush on my face and stood up. "I'm gonna go explore the town." As soon as I got out of the guild I reached my left hand up to my scarred eye and felt tears pooling up. "I can't fall in love...not again." 

Lucy P.O.V.~

I watched as Skylar left the guild in a hurry. "So why does she always cover her eyes with her hair?" Natsu asked sitting by me.

"It's because she's afraid..." I sighed looking down at my smoothie. "She told you she was attacked by a wolf right?" Natsu and the others who heard nodded. "Well...the reason she got upset when Mira asked her about a crush is because she fell in love a couple of years ago but the guy was just using her...One day he snapped when he didn't get what he wanted and he pulled out a knife...This was during the time when Jude had abandoned her and my mother hadn't found her yet...You see, time in the demon world works different than here. In this world, Sky has been with our mom for about a year but there, it's been around 8 years. Her life has been hell and she still always smiles..." I clenched my fist.

Gray put his hand on my shoulder. "I guess the smiling is contagious." I looked up to see everyone smiling at me and I just laughed at them.

"I guess so. I'm sorry if she seems weird or harsh sometimes.." They all nodded but told me not to worry about it. 

Mira looked at me with a concerned look. "Does she hate me now?" I shook my head trying to reassure her. 

"She's just scared of falling in love again."

Skylar P.O.V.~ (again I know, just wait)

It had started to rain and I looked up at the sky, my bangs moving to the side slightly. Not many people were out and the streets felt abandoned. I walked up towards a fountain when I slipped on a puddle and felt two pairs of arms catch me. 

They pulled me up and the voice on the right said "Are you alright?" 

I nodded and the voice on the left sounded quite rude. "Maybe you should watch your step more girlie." He sounded familiar and I looked up to see the blonde hair and blue eyes staring down at me. The same blue eyes I had missed ever since I was a kid. 

"Sting?"
