Allen is suddenly thrown into a world of deception, greed and revenge. She tries to make sence of things around her while uncovering secrets and finding herself.
She hid herself in the cave, care full so that no one or no creature would be able to find her. She sat behind a large rock on the right looking out through the mouth of the cave. She was sweating ........her heart was beating very fast. She had run faster than she had ever run before. She had to escape the massacre taking place in her village. She didn’t know who they were or what they wanted.
When she was playing in their backyard, her grandmother ran and gave her a backpack. Her grandmother was known as Anna in the village. She was an elderly woman with white hair on her temples, but, still very beautiful. She came running to Allen sweat pouring from her brows and gasping for breath. She held 15 year old Allen in her shaking hands and said “ Allen run! Run as far away from this village. This bag contains everything you would need for your journey.” She took a ragged breath with tears running down her cheeks. “Don’t stop my dear for anything or anyone. Just keep running till you feel it’s absolutely safe to take a break.” She gave Allen a tight hug and said “Please my child, I love you more than anything in this world. Leave.... Allen....L eave..... Leave right now.”
Allen didn’t understand what was going on. Why was her calm grandmother acting so flustered? She didn’t have any parents or any relatives. No family friends either. She didn’t know where to go. She cried for her grandmother to explain, but, Anna was incoherent. She pushed Allen to the back gate and pleaded “Please go my child, trust me. It’s for your own good. Leave Allen, right now. I shall get in touch with you where ever you are, but, for now PLEASE LEAVE right this moment. Don’t look back, don’t come back. I’ll find you... Leave.
Allen ran for 7 days. She didn’t stop even for once. She didn’t stop to drink water, she didn’t stop to eat, and she didn’t stop to check what her grandmother had packed inside her bag. All she knew was that her grandmother was very scared. She didn’t know for what or for whom. As she ran from her home towards the broken fence surrounding her village she heard a roar. A roar so loud, it was deafening. It was a roar of people crying out. She also heard people screaming, children crying. But, she didn’t stop; she didn’t stop to see if her friendly neighbour’s 2 year old son whom she would babysit was okay. She didn’t check if her grandmother was okay. She ran as fast as she could. She ran past the school were the village children studied. It was now burning high. The fire was spreading to the nearby buildings. It was blazing.
She ran into the woods surrounding her village. She kept running past the lake were she would often go for a swim with her grandmother. She ran past the big boulder which she loved to climb. She ran away from everything familiar. She ran away from the roads leading to the nearest town. She kept running deeper and deeper into the thick foliage of the forest. It was almost dark but she didn’t stop, she kept running for 7 days and more. Her limbs were aching, her throat was parched. She was sweating and desperately needed water, food and rest. She didn’t stop till she felt sure.
She came across a cave. An abandoned cave. She was sure no animal or person lived here. She always knew such things. She had never told her grandmother about it. Now, she didn’t know if she ever would. She felt very lonely, all alone in the jungle, no one knew where she was.... even she didn’t know where she was. She only knew that she was far away, very far away from her tiny village, her beautiful tiny village nestled in between two great mountains Kara and Keira. She had come to live with her maternal grandmother when her parents were killed in an accident when they were coming after visiting her paternal grandparents.
Allen suddenly heard a rustle in the bushes opposite her bringing her out of her reverie. She scolded herself for being careless in a foreign environment. She immediately took out the knife from her boots and held it in her right hand. She spread out her left hand as she crouched looking out for any kind of threat. But, it was only a rabbit. She immediately jumped and caught it. At least she would have a good meal. She waited crouching for a few more hours. When she felt that it was safe, she quietly lit a fire without any more thoughts distracting her. She kept a constant watch while she cleaned the rabbit in a stream she found nearby. She skinned it and roasted it. She ate it fast, for she didn’t know when she would be able to eat again. For now, her hunger was satisfied. She quickly drank some water from the stream when she was done. She was very tired. She washed her face and got back to the cave. She kept her backpack close to her and slept in the cave with the fire burning at the mouth of it to keep away wild animals. Then she slept.
