Hello my lovely readers! I know it's been a long time. Some of you are probably upset that I haven't updated in so long, but believe me there are those who have waited a whole lot longer on Fanfiction.net haha. I apologize on my absence. A lot has happened these past couple of month (both good and bad) and it is sometimes difficult for me to write the next chapter when I have no idea how the story ends. I appreciate all of your patience though!! If you continue to stick with me, I'll do my best to do this story justice.

Okay, enough of me rambling. Enjoy the chapter!!

Chapter 8: Don't Leave Me

Three long painful, agitating days went by and Caroline was miserable without Klaus. Ever since he left to go on his mysterious trip, the light and spark within her eyes dimmed drastically. To take her mind off of missing her mate, she spent her hours helping Bonnie and Sheila grind herbs in the shop. She would be found sulking around the room, filling the air with her sad sighs.

Sheila was a little amused at Caroline's dramatic behavior at first, but as the hours and days passed by she could see the little girl was genuinely depressed. She wasn't eating as much and looked off in the distance. It was like she wasn't mentally present. The witch tried to comfort the little blond and there were times where she cheered up if only a little bit, but only her Nik could bring her true happiness into view. Caroline didn't understand what she was feeling, but this feeling was a tremendous ache within her. However, today was the day Klaus would be coming back. Caroline kept glancing excitedly at the window whenever someone passed by the front of the shop. She hoped it would be Nik, but a frown appeared on her face when she saw it was a local instead. Sheila shook her head and chuckled at her. Her eagerness to see Klaus just made her restless.

Meanwhile, Mayor Lockwood walked up the steps of Caroline's house and knocked on the door, eager to see the little girl. If his suspicions were true, then that was all he needed.

Liz opened the door she was surprised to find the Mayor standing in front of her. "Mayor Lockwood, what a surprise! I didn't expect to see you here, especially at my front door. Please, do come in." She motioned him into the house.

"Thank you, Sheriff."

"How are things with you?"

"Oh, everything is going splendidly," he smiled. "How are things with your family? Or specifically, you, in this case."

She tensed a bit at the subject. Everybody at this point knew that Caroline's parents were getting a divorce. Liz believed it was better for her sake and Caroline's. "You know how things are with Bill. He's . . . going to leave Mystic Falls soon."

"I know, I'm so sorry Liz," he said sympathetically. "How is Caroline taking this?"

"She doesn't know yet. I can never find the right time to speak with her because of my job. It's a lot harder now since she frequently visits Sheila's workshop with Bonnie and her new nanny, Klaus."

He raised a brow. "Bonnie has a nanny?"

"Well, I really should call him manny since he's a man, but I met him a few days ago when Caroline greeted him. I was a little skeptical at first, but I met up with Sheila the other day and she confirmed to me that they're old friends. They both took a liking to him, especially Caroline."

Bingo. It was like a light bulb appeared at the top of his head. He couldn't help but grin and it felt like the odds were in his favor. "Well, then I must meet him at once and properly greet him myself. You said his name was Klaus?" He questioned.
