"Does this dress make my hips look big?" I asked.
We were doing a Round Two of "Dress up Maia for her Date" and once again I was getting some pre-date jitters.
"What if he doesn't like me?" I question once more.
Juanita groans loudly in frustration.
"Oh my gosh, Maia!" She shouts. "The last thing you need to be worrying about is looks and personality. Girl you've got it all! All you have to do is relax and be cool.
Nita comes next to me and fluffy the hem of the skirt she let me borrow.
"Got it: relax and be cool."
"Exactly!" She replies.
A car horn beeps twice from outside of the apartment. Juanita peeks through the blinds and sees a jet black Mercedes-Benz parked on the block.
"That's him! C'mon girl, go, go, go!!"
Nita literally pushes my back and shoves me throughout the apartment and through door. I hustle down the stairs and Nita follows behind.
Oh, God I worry to myself.
We finally reached the final floor and we come up next to the Mercedes and instantly my heart drops.
Lucas is leaning against the hood in the sexiest way ever and is dressed so sharply he makes James Bond look under dressed.
Lucas wore a white longsleeved collar shirt with a long black top coat, dark dress pants, dress shoes to match, and a sterling silver Michael Kors watch on his right wrist.
Juanita took hold of my wrist and dragged me over to Lucas. He looked stunning and made me feel so uncomfortably under dressed. Thanks for reminding me how poor I am, Lucas.
Lucas' POV:
As soon as I saw Maia come from inside of the apartment complex, I was floored. I thought she looked good before in her waitress uniform! Now that I saw her dressed up formally I was set.
Even if she was wearing Juanita's dress from eighth grade formal, which from this day in time would be considered out of style and childish, she still managed to make it work.Maia's POV:
Lucas was wide eyed. He scanned me like a metal detector. I looked down at my feet going he would stop. Too bad he didn't.
Lucas held out his hand for me. I took hold of his hand as he lead me into his car.
It was extremely lush. Burgundy leather seats, silver detailing, Beats audio, and it smelled like fresh pine.
Lucas hopped into the driver's side and turned on the engine. He buckled up his seat belt and backed out of the curb.
Once we were on the road I kept quiet. I didn't want to risk him not liking me by blurting out something lame.
I crossed my legs and folded my hands on my lap. I kept my eyes locked on the road.
"So..." Lucas begins. "You feeling alright? You know...about tonight?"
My mind was racing. I wanted to be honest but I also didn't want to say something unforgivable. I just kept my mouth shut and gave the most blunt answer I could think of.
"Yeah, I guess."
He smiled. I could tell he was trying hard to make conversation with me.
As much as I wanted to talk to him for real, I just couldn't. I was not going to be viewed as a loser by the coolest, hottest guy in school.
