"Mikoto, this is Chise-chan. She's going to be staying with us for a while, so please try to get along with each other." Mrs. Suoh said smilingly at the young child, Suoh Mikoto. Chose overlooked upon the character Suoh Mikoto. He seemed to be older than what his age was. From what she had been told, he was Chise's age, just a month younger.

"H— hello," Chise tried to give him warmest smile, but she could tell it came out awkward when the young boy snorted and rolled his wife amber eyes at her and walked away. Chise and Mrs. Suoh stared at him as he walked away into the living room.

Chise not the bottom of her lips, turned around and looked up questionably at Mrs. Suoh. Mrs. Suoh just gave her an assuring smile. "Don't worry, he'll warm up to you." She said.

Chise tried to smile, trying to believe what she said. But she found herself unable to. Since the incident and waking up in the hospital, she found herself unable to retain the usual smile she once had. It was as if she had lost the ability to smile!

Mrs. Suoh explained to Chose that there was just three people living in the small house. Her husband who was at work, Mikoto her son, and herself. She was going to live with them for a while till the people at the staff office at the hospital found her another place to go.

Chise nodded, understanding her situation. "Thank you for agreeing to take care of me." Chise thanked her. Mrs. Suoh blushed at her politeness and stammered to get words out. "Oh, it's my pleasure. Your parents were really good friends of mine and I'm honoured to be able to look after their child after their passing."

Her bright eyes brightened and Chise found herself shifting uncomfortably. She lowered her head and looked to the ground. She had never been close to her parents and when she had heard they had passed away in the incident, she hadn't really felt any sadness or pain for them. She had felt nothing. By the way Chise had lowered her head, Mrs. Suoh gasped and apologised for her loss and not thinking before she spoke.

" Oh no, it's okay!" Chise assured her quickly. " It's okay." Chise forced an 'okay' smile, trying to tell the older woman that it was alright.

Mrs. Suoh let out a relived breath and knelt down to Chise's height and looked her in the eyes. A warm and welcoming presence surrounded the woman. "Well, I'm glad you're alright, Chise. And welcome to the family." Her smile was bright and radiant. Chise nodded and thanked Mrs. Suoh, for the second, for allowing Chise to enter the family.

Days passed.

Weeks passed.

Months passed.

Chise stayed with the Suoh's for little over hand a year until the hospital where she had been taken after the incident found a suitable orphanage for Chise. In the hand a year that Chise was with the Suoh's, she and Mikoto started conversing only a few months after Chise came.

At first, it seemed like the two would complain and argue about each other. But after a few pushes from Mrs. Suoh, Chise and Mikoto passed the phase of arguing and complaining and started having normal conversations. They started getting close. But by that time, half a year had passed and it was time for Chise to be taken back by the hospital and taken to an orphanage.

While in the orphanage, Chise learned that the incident of where the red king's sword of Damocles had fallen was now being called the Kagutsu Carter Incident. A horrible named to give such an event. Chise would occasionally snap at the other kids for laughing and taunting the late king.

After six months there, Chise had had enough and ran away from the orphanage one night. She was later found a few days later by non-other than Mikoto who he and his family had heard that Chise had run away. "Stupid, don't go running away by yourself!" Mikoto had scolded her.

"I— I wasn't trying to run away!" Chise had resorted dishonesty, hot tears streaming down her cheeks. Mikoto snorted with contempt but did not say anything back to her.

Later after Chise returned to the orphanage with Mikoto, she was told by the director of the orphanage that she was going to be adopted. At first, she was scared of leaving to be with strangers she didn't know, but after she was told that she was going to be adopted by the Suoh's, she relaxed and agreed.

"I'll be the best daughter you could ever ask for," Chise told the Suoh couple, a bright smile upon her face.

Yes. I will be the best daughter. And I'll keep on living, living to protect this special flame....Genji.....
