Epilogue

"I'm afraid to tell you that the scholarship spot is not only being pursued by yourself anymore ... there seems to be one other sophmore that is attempting to gain the spot now... let me see here," Principal Ralpman reached into the nearest drawer in his desk, filled with manila folders and probably randomized papers. "It seems a Hayden Doniway also wishes to recieve the scholarship," he admitted a bit quieter than his earlier tone as he squinted to peer at a paper he didn't even remove from one of the folders.

        "He's new," he added.

She bit her lip, rather pierced her lip with her two front teeth, and she began to taste the iron from her blood. Another competitor, for the spot in Harvard. That would also mean another competitor for student body president along with validictorian. Those were the requirements to at least get a chance to gain the scholarship after all. Jamelyn was never one to be afraid of competition but the slight chance she wouldn't get the spot herself made her stomach tighten along with making her mouth go dry.

"But of course, seeing your previous test scores and witnessing your determination for myself at the latest debate team meet, I'm sure you won't have any problem with this little competition that seems to have a chance of arousing between the two of you," the principal smiles at her although it was tight lipped and didn't reach his eyes. You could tell he was more unsure about this than she was, and that only tightened her stomach further.

"Of course, thank you Principal Ralphman," it was all she could gather up at the moment for a response as she picked her bookbag up off of the floor from beside the chair she had been seated in until she now stood up, pinpricks snaking down her legs. She gave him one last fake smile as she slung her backpack over her shoulders and went to exit.

"Oh, and one more thing Miss Strist," he added and she responded with an eyebrow raise, turning back around to face him. "He transferred here from Ramsley." That was when the brick dropped onto her stomach causing it not to be able to possibly tense up anymore than it was.

Ramsley was one of the top schools in the state, not only a magnet school but 'the' magnet school in Maine, the state neighboring New Hampshire. It was the place to go. But she had always chosen not to try out for it considering she had everything locked in the bag here. Or at least, she thought she did. Until now...

Hayden peered at the doors to the office, his eyes shifting back down to the map of the school he held clutched tightly in both hands. He wasn't completly sure about the location which is why he was now double checking, although he always double checked, especially while taking tests or recieving deducted points on a test review. Typcially the teachers were wrong about his grades anyways, he tended to prove them wrong.

He was about to twist the knob to the door when it twisted itself and the door was opened to reveal a girl with dark brunette hair that fell down her back in waves and the deepest gray eyes he had ever seen. Not to mention her plump pink lips, not with a touch of lipstick applied. He wasn't stunned, wasn't even surprised. Girls usually didn't get a big reaction out of him for looks. Sure she looked nice but it was what was inside that mattered. Of course meaning her intelligence quota. Or at least, that's what he wanted to think. It differed from what he did think.

        She was beautiful.

She blinked, looking back at him before excusing herself past him with a mutter and her shoulder brushing his on the way out. He walked forwards, finally getting a glimpse past the door and realizing he was once again correct. This was the office.

Beginning to walk past the front counter, he shot the lady behind it a small smile until he came upon a door labeled 'Principal'. He knocked twice, sharp and loud before hearing a voice tell him he could enter and doing just so. He was presented with a well put together man, grey streaks hinting his red hair and a bit of grey stubble along his chin and above his lip. He had on a grey suit and glasses. He must be Principal Ralphman.

"Hayden is it? Nice to finally meet you, I've heard so much about you," it sounded like how a parent would talk to the first girl their son brought home or vice versa. He only nodded before the principal motioned for him to take a seat in one of the cushioned chairs on the opposite side of his desk from himself. "Now I'm assuming you want the Hardvard spot for the state, considering you were going for it in Maine?"

Hayden cleared his throat before speaking, map still gripped in his fingertips, crinkling where they claimed their hold on it. "Yes sir, of course," it didn't seem as if it would be much of a problem after all. He had it in the bag for Maine, if only his father hadn't gotten repositioned for his job. This happened frequently though so it wasn't as if he wasn't used to it by this point.

"I would just like to inform you another junior is also planning on competing for that spot, basically the only other candidate so far that has been noticed. Jamelyn Strist, you might have seen her on your way in here," so that was who that girl he bumped into on the way through the door. "And she runs on pure determination." It almost sounded like the principal favored the girl.

"As do I sir, it's one of my main motivations," he didn't tend to speak too much unless necessary or trying to impress and in this situation it didn't seem appropriate.

"But of course ... I was simply ... warning you," the older male seemed to carefully choose his words before taking a deep breath and lifting his eyebrows, shifting in his plush seat before clapping his hands together. "Now, let's get your schedule and lockers together, shall we?" ....

Hey guys! I hope you have enjoyed reading so far, I figured an epilogue might explain the story plot a bit better plus it's a bit of a teaser for those of you who are actually reading this oops. Leave suggestions or grammatical corrections if you wish :)
