Chapter 8

"Why do I have the feeling this was a set up?" Leah turned around to the familiar voice as she stood outside of the restaurant. There was Adam, casually dressed in a black buttoned down shirt and matching pants. Leah took in a shaky breath, she was nervous before. But he made it worse.

"Because I'm sure it is one, I have been standing out here for the last five minute deciding if I really want to go in or if I should just bail." Nervously she ran her hand on her blue floral dress, and shook her head.

"I don't want to go in there; I don't think I can face them, Adam. Especially not them together, I was able to avoid Jack, because of his studying for his exam and being short handed at the shop we only shared phone calls. But facing him I'm not sure I can do it."

Adam began to place his hand on her shoulder but pulled back just before he touched her. He remembered the last time he touched her and he didn't want that thought going through his mind before he was to meet up with his fiancée and her brother; Leah's boyfriend.

"I understand, I couldn't hide from Val. I have been a little short tempered with her, because I'm not sure how to handle this alone. You have always been the one to keep me level headed. We have to, no; we need to do this together for their sakes."

"How are you so calm about this, we are horrible people, we don't deserve them Adam."

"I'm playing calm, Leah. I am going haywire in the inside. There is nothing I can do about it now. I will not hurt her by telling her about our...my lapse in judgment."

'Now you want to think of the consequences.' She thought bitterly, "I'm scared I might not be as strong as you."

"You are, I know you are, now let us walk into the lion's den. And hope when can get out in one piece"

Adam took a deep breath as the two of them entered restaurant. Both he and Leah haven't spoken to one another since their night at the hotel two weeks ago. They decided it was best if they took a break from each other, and for the first time even the inseparable duo was apart. They spotted Val and Jack at a booth that was easy to see once they entered the diner. Adam felt Leah body tense as they closed in on the booth, she started to turn back around to head for the door but Adam placed his hand out to stop her from bolting.

"Relax, Lee." She glanced at him and slightly nodded. Easier said than done. They were eagerly greeted by their lovers, as they took their seats next to the siblings, across from one another.
Jack leaned in and kissed her lips, "I missed you." Then he took her shaky hand and placed one on her knuckle. Leah responded with a soft reply, "Me too."

Jack frowned in concern, "Are you ok? You're shivering." Leah shot an uneasy glance Adam way before responding.

"Yea, this place is just a little cold for me." She wrapped her arms around herself.

"Come here," Jack hugged her closer to him, "Better." Leah nodded; she actually was able to stop shaking.

"So why exactly has this ambush been constructed." Adam cleared his throat and questioned, folding his hands on the table. The PDA was always uncomfortable, now it was awkward and unsettling. Especially since Adam knew what it felt like to have Leah wrapped in his arms, as intimately as Jack was holding her.
Valerie leaned in close to Adam touching his arm, "It's not an ambush, more like an intervention."

Leah raised an eyebrow, in confusion that bordered close to a glare, "For what purpose?"
Jack took it as his turn to speak, "It's been couple weeks since you two talked to one another, and from what we learned about you guys, this isn't normal."

"We were worried that something happened between you guys that caused a rift." Val broke in. Leah eyes immediately shifted to Adam's once again, who in turn had been staring at her the whole time. He was beginning to feel the pressure, they both was sure if the siblings knew anything there would have been harsher words thrown around. Panic rose in her chest, his leg began to bounce up and down underneath the table.
Leah knew that only happens when he feels trapped or nervous. She took a deep breath; she knew she would have to speak on their behalf. One of them would have to say something and soon.
"There isn't much to say, there has been a slight push in our relationship," Adam frowned.
