"'Every stand user is connected....'"
As middle-schooler Josuke is barraged with all the girls in school, another one with a shy demeanor lays her back against a tree. She blushes, holding her books and remaining unseen.
"Is that what they say?"
The young female tucks a stand of her hair behind her ear shyly as she stares at a certain pompadoured boy from a distance. Suddenly, she feels hands slide up to her waist.
"Yurippe~ You watching Josuke again?" she was teased by another girl around her age.
"S-s-stop!" she squealed, the pitch of her voice becoming a bit higher than usual. Her friend, smirking at her, crossed her arms and went an inch closer to her. The girl, known as Yurippe, was a tomato by now. Her face almost darker than her own hair.
"W-What are you doing, (y/n)?" she stutters.
"Why don't you just tell him already? You can't just let him wait forever y'know. The dude has a whole girl group after him. They'll confess before even you do!" you exclaimed and warned with a pout forming on your face. With your cheeks inflating, Yuri put her hands on your cheeks and squished it amusingly.
"Oi!" you retorted.
Yurippe found herself giggling and so did you a little afterwards.
Though you are technically the protagonist in this story, you'd always be seen acting as the typical 'best friend character' around your buddy. You followed her around. You teased her. You even heard her stories of falling in love and a brief history of her nerdy crushes in the past. You just couldn't help, but to feel a little jealous of her sometimes. That she was more livelier than all you had ever been in your own life.
That was until later.
"Hey, (Y/n)," called out Yuri.
"Yo," you replied simply and waited for a response.
"Have you ever felt like we're being watched?"
The question was unsettling, but it wasn't something to be necessarily taken seriously. With that, you just laughed as your poor friend twiddles her thumbs in fear.
"Don't be silly," you laughed again with your arm affectionately wrapped around her, "If we were, then they would have already gotten a beating." You confidently bawled a fist and held it in front of yourself jokingly.
"You're right," Yuri answered. Her laugh was rather nervous-sounding.
That's when you regretted it.
~
Soon enough, reports and gossip was spread across the whole entire school.
Some may say it's believed to be a suicide and some may say it might be a murder. You greatly disagreed at the suicide theory. You knew how Yuri was. She was a girl with a healthily happy life. There was other supporting evidence that would make you go on and on.
But the truth was....
No one really knows what happened.
According to a couple of witnesses, there was an arrow that got through her chest. But, for whatever reason, got mysteriously removed a few minutes before the police arrived at the scene.
"She told me to entrust you with this....," Mrs. Tanaka said in melancholy.
"Thank you," you responded as nicely as possible.
Tears formed into your eyes as you received it.
A diary
Her diary.
It had everything she had told you. Her crushes in elementary school, her embarrassingly written poems made for Josuke, and her true, personal feelings. You laughed reading at some of them, but couldn't help but feel depressed about it. It gave you mixed feelings that you couldn't exactly describe.
Hugging it to yourself on your bed at night, you always slipped underneath your
pillow constantly hoping that she was always with you as she was before.
After a few days calling off school as your mother allowed you to under her consent, you scratched your baggy eyes as you went through the hallways. You noticed hair bump into you... A pompadour.
"Ah! Sorry...." Josuke nervously apologized.
"It's fine," you answered back as you started walking away.
"W-wait!" he exclaimed, holding your arm as you stopped your tracks.
"Your friend.... I'm sorry for your loss," he apologized once again and let you go.
You didn't want to say anything, but you nodded and walked away with your hands in your pockets. You couldn't look at him again. He just reminded you of her. As time passed, you tried to forget every single that happened between the two of you and it did work.
... Well not completely, but you get the gist.

"I want you to find Higashikata Josuke for me and stop him... Maybe distract him before he interferes with any of my plans."
🔸🔸🔸
You twitched when you heard that name again.
'Josuke'
The name rang in your ears like a school bell before the lunch period started. Cringing to yourself, you sighed and held the edges of your (second f/c)-colored camera. You took pictures of whatever you saw along the way, boring or not you had editing tools to use later anyway.
Stopping at a pillar and laying against it, you pushed and pulled the purple ribbon of your school uniform to prevent the heat from making you any hotter than you are now. "The sun hates me today," you said to yourself as you squinted at the sun hanging above you.
You winced when you heard something hard slide down and bang off the pillar right next to you. Looking down, it was a turtle...? An injured one too!
"Eek!" you quickly reacted and jumped back, hitting your head on accident because you pretty much forgot you were laying against a pillar. Holding your head, you saw a group of rowdy, unprofessional seniors ganging up on a guy with an all-too-familiar pompadour. Trying not to assume right away, you figured many people in Japan and even outside of Japan has the same hair style anyway. It was a trend back in the old days that people still seem to copy.
You stared back at the turtle in sympathy and stared back at the seniors.
"What a bunch of assholes," you said out loud by accident.
Glancing at them realizing with your cheeks somewhat flushed, you realized what you had done, but were glad when you saw that they didn't hear you. Sighing in relief, you saw the man-boy apologizing? You would have figured that he'd fight back, but I guess the unimaginable happened. Especially as a dude with that build, those seniors would be punched into the moon in no time.
Going a bit closer to hear the situation going on, you were able to pick up some stuff that they were saying.
"Hey pussy!" exclaimed the leader of the so-called 'bullies', "What's your name?"
"Yes! I'm in Class 1-B, Josuke.... Higashikata," you heard the teen with pompadour say. With that, you knew you had to get out of there. There was no way you're getting your PTSD back.
No. Freaking. Way.
Running away as soon as possible, you bumped into a tall man wearing a white jacket. Feeling yourself fall back, you were suddenly stood up just fine. Looking around in confusion and looking at yourself, you shook it off as just some sort of... Fluke. Staring back at the tall man in front of you, you bowed in respect. "Sorry, sir!" you apologized.
The man in front of you tipped his hat cooly so that a shadow would hang over his eyes. Remaining silent for a second, he finally spoked. "It's fine. Just watch it next time," he simply said in a cold tone. Sweat-dropping, you nodded and tried walking away until the man stopped you.
"You were watching weren't you?" he questioned, his tone not changing at all.
Busted.
