"Marie, you're still here-""No, Mom, I don't want the puppy!"
"..." Cyrus and Marie stared at each other for a long moment, Cyrus trying to restrain his hysterical laughter while Marie blushed brighter than the light at her desk.
"...please don't tell Jacob about this." Marie pleaded.
"Oh, I'm telling Jacob." Cyrus began to openly laugh. "That way he's sure not to buy you a puppy!"
"Cyrus I was dreaming, shut up!"
"Pfft- yeah okay, whatever. Anyways, I was about to lock up, but I guess you'll do that for me?"
"Yeah... I've got a lot of work to do. I still need to prepare my interview with Asgore on Monday. From Mighty King to Humble Gardener."
"Heh, yeah he's a very different man from what he was in the underground." Cyrus rolled his neck, readjusting his briefcase in his blue scaled hand. It had taken some getting used to, but the blue colored reporter from the underground was certainly a great talent to be found. One of the first monster reporters at the Center Circle, so his reports were some of the top read. Marie had shown him the ropes when he had first arrived. "Well, I'm heading out. Don't stay here too late, alright? The last thing I need is to be writing the obituary of a workaholic named Marie."
"Well gee, aren't you mister foreboding?" She grinned, waving him out. "I'll see you Monday, Cyrus."
"See ya." With a swish of his tail, Cyrus exited the room. Marie sighed, slumping back into her chair. Why wouldn't I want the puppy...
Marie had been working late all week, and right now she was not going to accomplish anything without a cup of coffee. "Forget it, I'll write the rest when I get home." Gathering her papers into her shoulder bag, she shut the lamp off and headed out to the parking garage, where her little white car sat alone in its lot as it had been every night for the past week and a half. It had taken a serious amount of convincing Max to let her have the interview with Asgore, and she was desperate not to screw it up.
She comfied herself in the tearing leather seats and started up the engine, pulling out of the lot and heading out into the night. The windows and roof of the car were immediately greeted by the pelting of rain, sending Marie into a mild cursing spell as she drove down the two-way street that led out of the city. Marie had always preferred the comforts of the local forest, so when she heard about a plot of land available in the woods just outside of town, she immediately begged her fiance Jacob for the house, also pleading to her editor Max to give her a pay raise.
Sleep was slowly crawling over Marie. Her vision was tinging black, her mind slowly beginning to numb. She slapped herself across the cheek to keep awake, but her senses were all failing her.
A bright flash of blue light up ahead sent enough fear through her body to jolt her wide awake. Blazing on forward at 55 miles per hour, she saw him, sitting knelt over in the middle of the road. He turned, seeing the headlights with horror. Marie tried slamming the brakes, but nothing was going to be fast enough. She yanked on the car wheel, sending the vehicle into a spinning rampage that now was simply out of control.
There was a sickening thud, a couple cracks, and the sound of something being crunched as the tires passed over. The car went spiraling on for a bit more before coming to a screeching halt.
