"Mommy, I'm scared." I whispered, burrowing my head into my Mother's stomach. She wrapped her arm around me but made no attempt to speak. "Tell me it will be alright." I begged. Her silence sent me into more of a panic. The banging on the door got progressivly louder until the hinges finally gave out. Several men wearing suits and red ties barged in the room. The last one to enter was was the bulkiest. He had at least several hundred pounds of muscle on him.
"Seperate them" he said. His voice reminded me of iron, cold and unforgiving. Somone tore me from my mother. I tried to escape thier grasp but they drew me in closer, wraping my arms tight around me. The lead man laughed. "We have a little fighter don't we?" he chuckled to his other men. I scanned the room. Two men held my mothers arms, her head hung low.
"Please let us go. We have nothing to offer." I pleaded, knowing that my mother would never speak up.
"You have more to offer than you think. Your home for us to sleep the night in. You lives, we could sell you as slaves or have you do our bidding. There is two right there." he said grinning. " We will deal with you in the morning. Right now we will rest. John you take first watch, keep them seperated." He ordered. I glanced at my mom, who was staring at the floor. I wish she would look at me, let her face take all my fears away, but she continued staring at the ground. One of the men threw me against the concrete wall. The back of my head hit the wall, leaving me with black tinged vision. I slumped down. This was going to be a long night.
I awoke to a pain in my leg. One of the men had kicked me. I stood up and stretched. I looked around. I made eye contact for a short second with my mom before she turned away. Someone grabbed my arm and started to lead me to the door. "Wait! Where am I going?" I shouted in protest.
"Hold on!" someone said. Everyone stopped. The ring leader came into view, a smirk on his face. He marched over to my mom and pushed her towards me. "Go on tell him where he is going. Tell him what you did!" The man yelled at her. My mom continued staring at the ground. He grabbed her face and made her face me. "Tell him now!" He said, getting angry.
She cleared her throat. " Last night.... they made me an offer. I had to take it and well... you going to work for them now." she said meekly.
The man laughed. " An offer? She sold you into slavery to protect herself! She gets to go on while you work away for us!" He laughed.
"Is that true?" I asked her, horrified. She looked up at me, tear tracing her cheek. I turned from her, as a man prodded me to a car. I couldn't belive she had sold me out like that. Just as I put my foot in the vehicle I heard gunfire and a scream. I choked back a sob. It wasn't a man's scream I had heard. The man next to me pushed me into the car, and closed the door behind me. I stared out the window, heading for who knows where.
